Cool Hunting
During a stroll through the up-and-coming "U" Street district of Washington DC last weekend, I stumbled on the mini-universe of Simply Home, an all-encompassing home design store and restaurant. In one room they have a fascinating array of artifacts and products, thanks to an ongoing collaboration with villagers all over Thailand, and in the other you find yourself in a far-east Asian minimalist dining paradise (where I discovered the Chrysalis Lamp I wrote about earlier this week). The cuisine is a blend of gourmet Thai and new American fusion dishes that are all prepared with elegant simplicity, are available for take-out or delivery, and are all surprisingly affordable. Simply Home also offers fresh flowers and great new gifts introduced new each month. Location and product and food shots follow after the jump.

Busboys and Poets, a restaurant/bookstore/coffee shop/bar/theatre/art gallery established in 2005, celebrates the unique cultural diversity of its location by creating a kind of progressive, "po-mo" salon for people in the U "who believe that social justice and peace are obtainable." Inside this inviting universe you'll find small living rooms, dining areas, banquet tables, all surrounded by rotating art installations, tasty food options served until the...
It's no wonder the privately owned Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR) is on the edge of becoming a full-blown destination resort—in some ways similar to that of its long distance neighbor Telluride—however it somehow manages to maintain a relaxed, local and very backcountry feel. Friend and CBMR's Communication Director, Todd Walton comments, "As change occurs, we maintain a profound respect for what has made...
by Rachel Felder Just a short taxi ride from the Blue Mosque and the Grand Bazaar, Istanbul's new Akaretler Row Houses feel a million miles away from the grimy, congested frenzy of the city's touristy landmarks. Originally built as housing for palace workers in the nineteenth century, the set of buildings have been transformed into an understated and elegant development that's as modern as...
Tretorn opened its first stand alone boutique yesterday in Georgetown, D.C, its location a coincidental nod to its preppy history. Using a custom modular display system shaped like the Swedish flag, in addition to their minimalist footwear, the Swedish label will also offer their rubber boots, their new line of men's apparel and accessories. Planning a visit to Canada's largest city? Look no further than Streets.to, Toronto's visual search engine, to set you up with a personal tour. Taking you on a simulated 3-D city excursion, Streets.to is touted as "the world's first and only patent-pending virtual cityscape." It's purpose: to turn virtual into reality, giving you a comprehensive visual depiction of what one can expect in and...
We like wine at Cool Hunting but we don't like the whiff of snobbery that often accompanies it, which is why these three places are more than welcome to top up our glass. In their own way, they're helping to demystify what's behind the label, encouraging drinkers to experiment without fear. The Sampler (above left) recently opened in Islington, North London to much fanfare....
