Ineke Hans Bowls by SummerSeventySix

ineke_hans_bowls.jpg

If you're anything like me, eating breakfast doesn't stop you checking your email, answering your phone, and changing the T.V. channel all at the same time. These multi-task enabling soup/cereal bowls by Dutch designer Ineke Hans are ideal.

They come with a built-in handle and a spoon that hooks snugly on top, making it a bit easier to free up up one hand if you need to. The bowl also works very well for serving something like a salsa or dressing at the table.

They're made by Royal VKB and have caught the eye of others elsewhere, as they are set to receive a Red Dot Design Award at a ceremony next month. I stumbled across the bowls at one of London's Conran shops where a set of two cost me £24.95.

Three New MoMA Store Additions
The Museum of Modern Art's popular design store added some clever new items recently, all of which aimed to help you further personalize your personal space. The Exhibit Your Art Pad (pictured at right) is a stack of sticky note pages that feature a stylized blue frame on the border. As such, anything you write in the center—whether a doodle or detailed painting—is immediately...
Design: Intelligence Made Visible
A follow-up to a text originally drafted for the London Design Museum, Terence Conran and Stephen Bayley's new book Design: Intelligence Made Visible is a near encyclopedic reference of design since the Industrial Revolution. Prefaced by a history of design that touches on major influences, including the advent of branding, Colt's "Navy" revolver, William Morris' influence and the role of the U.S., the rest of...
AZEdesign Messy Tablecloth
A response to the dying tradition of home-cooked meals, Polish firm AZEdesign's Messy Tablecloth embraces the drips, spills and general lack of orderliness that's naturally a part of sitting down to eat. By outlining the disarray on the fabric with embroidery thread, they create a "pattern of situation," complete with thread loops of wine spilling off the edge. (Click image for detail.) Unfortunately, it...
Interview with Maarten Baas
The most talked about exhibition during the Salone del Mobile was that by Maarten Baas. Set within the chaotic mess of a working auto garage in the Zona Tortona, the show covered works to date, along with a preview of new collections for Contrasts Gallery and Established & Sons Limited. The choice of space initially felt to me like a commentary on the hyper-produced...
