Blue Bottle Coffee by Josh Rubin

Blue-Bottle-Coffee

While in San Francisco last week I stumbled upon the best cappuccino I've had in ages at Blue Bottle Coffee Co—purveyors of beans and beverages made from fair trade, organically grown coffee. Blue Bottle has sort of a make-shift store front on the street side of Earl Gonzalez and Tad Longmaid's Linden, a custom furniture workshop at 315 Linden Street. The beans are roasted, exhaled and blended in small batches at their Oakland headquarters across the bay. Each batch is only 21 lbs. (5 to 6 times smaller than average commercial roasters) which allows them to carefully inspect and control their product. Blue Bottle currently offers 13 different blends and is available online. Though given how small the batches are, I'm not yet sure how easy it is to get some.

It's rare, but sometimes brand as curator actually works. Such is the case with Lexus' first Hybrid Living Suite (part of their larger Hybrid Living initiative) at the Fairmont San Francisco, a room designed with eco-friendly materials, which we had the recent opportunity to check out first-hand thanks to Lexus and the Fairmont. Their lifestyle marketing efforts succeeds where others don't by leading the...
Eric Scollon Ceramic Sex Toys
Our exploration of SF's Look boutique continues, leading us to local artist Eric Scollon's cock rings and butt plugs made of ceramic in the style of Tang dynasty blue-and-white pieces. The objects flirt "with the distinctions between art and craft, utility and uselessness and the boundaries between the world of art and the “real world.” Each one is unique, painted by hand and available...
Galen Trezise Crocheted Cozies
From the newly-opened Look boutique in SF, these handmade cozies have all the warm appeal of a sweater grandma made with an offbeat Dr. Seuss shape. According to the site, they're intended for vases but we think they'd be well-suited for dressing up a different household object that holds water and plant matter. With unusual colorways, ruffles and perforated weaves, they also hold their...
On Location: TenderNob, San Francisco
by Sydney Pfaff Today, Refinery29 reports on a new neighborhood on the rise in San Pancho (that's SF for those of you not in the know). No longer the middle ground between the gritty, crime-ridden Tenderloin and the slick society of Nob Hill, San Francisco's Lower Nob Hill—sweetly nicknamed the TenderNob—is home to a recent surplus of worthy fashion outposts, restaurants, and specialty shops....
