Lappers

by Ted Cahill

Lappers

Breakfast in bed becomes a lot more practical and fun this spring with the arrival of Lappers. These ergonomically designed melamine trays with unique indentations for plates and glasses come with interchangeable silicone mats that keep dishes secure and provide a myriad of contrasting color combinations. The trays have large handles, are dishwasher safe, and nest into each other for convenient storage. Lappers are made by Archer Innovations. Contact them via email (lappers [at] belsouth [dot] net) or telephone (+1 (706)-289-5736).

ITP Spring Show 2006

by Ami Kealoha

Psychicfields Sigh

Each ITP (Interactive Telecommunications Program) expo seems bigger, crazier, and more well-produced than the next. Last week's show was no exception with projects like the De-Painter, a machine that uses viewers' movements to generate paintings, and a Bluetooth person-tracking system called BlueWay. The digital readout pictured above left is Robert Seward's trippy Consciousness Field Resonator that takes the concept behind Princeton's Global Consciousness Project and integrates it into a personal device designed to resonate with users by alluding to uncanny correlations. If you really want to geek out, Seward's website has instructions for how to create your own True Random Number Generator. Other pieces were much more literal translations of much less metaphysical subjects, like Dimensional Cursive (pictured left) , which transforms script into three dimensions and reminds of Fred Eerdekens' work. Look out for more, including a piece incorporating the algorithms of sunlight reflecting off of water and a zipper orchestra, in a Cool Hunting Video later this week.

Puma x Cubanbee RS 100 Contest

by Ami Kealoha

Rs100Cubanbee2-1 Rs100Cubanbee1-1

Puma teamed up with renowned tattoo artist BJ Betts aka Cubanbee for a special release of the Puma heritage RS 100 to be released around Mother's and Father's day and offered Cool Hunting a pack that includes one pair of each of the three colorways to give away to one of our readers. Each style features one of three classic Cubanbee designs with embroidered accents, either "Mom" (pictured above), a sacred heart, or an anchor that reads "Dad," (both pictured after the jump) on the heel. To win, go to our sister site Needled and find the other product that uses Cubanbee's art. Submit that answer here, let us know your shoe size (sorry, only men's sizes 9-13 available) and address, and be sure to sign up for our now-daily newsletter! We'll choose a winner at random from correct entries and the contest will end next week, Monday, 22 May 2006.

Chill. Radio

by SummerSeventySix

Chill-Radio

When used to talk about music, chill has been a bit of a dirty word for a while. That ignores the fact though that sometimes, many of us still want to listen to just that. Digital radio is rapidly taking over in the UK, with dozens of stations cropping up all the time. Most choices are provided by the media's big players, but there are also seemingly homegrown options to listen to as well. In the last month, I've been sat in the kitchens of a couple friends who've got digital radio sets, and both have had theirs tuned to Chill.

Tai Chi for your ears is one of the station's slightly tongue-in-cheek mantras, but don't think it's just two-men-and-a-Mac on heavy rotation. Right now, it's Sunday morning and I'm listening to a rare remix of India.Arie. The playlist also stretches from classic 4Hero and Sigur Ros, through more commercial names like Jack Johnson and Massive Attack, to surprises from Badly Drawn Boy and Badmarsh and Shri. No presenters ruin the vibe, and adverts are practically nonexistent. In the UK, you can pick up Chill with a DAB radio, or via digital cable television and Sky channel 860. For everyone else, the playlist is streamed, albeit at a very low sample rate, at www.helpmechill.com.

If you're in L.A. this is the last week to check out the 2nd annual i am 8-bit exhibit at Gallery 1988. Previously this year I mentioned the i am 8-bit book (now available), which showcased work from the 1st year's exhibition as well as a few from the current one on display in L.A. However, there's plenty of new and exciting work to see at this game fanboy manifestion otherwise known as the i am 8-bit exhibit.
