Cool Hunting
Quite a few things come to mind when you think of Los Angeles (traffic, celeb-spotting, the year-round tan), but innovative fashion tends to fall far down on the list, if it makes the list at all. But times, they are a-changing, and by the will of some visionary shopowners, L.A. has developed a thriving boutique scene with a distinct voice and style, with stores such as Des Kohan and Kendo, a Los Angeles sneaker mecca on par with Alife or DQM that caters exclusively to women, shows that New York could probably take a few tips on details they've gotten just right over on the West Coast. Refinery29 leads you through all the essential spots to hit in two buzzing neighborhoods—West Hollywood and Miracle Mile—in the first of three "Postcard From L.A." installments, covering the best places to shop now, designers to check out, dining, and nightlife, too. Get a couple more glimpses of out West after the jump.

Opening Ceremony has long held court as New York's top spot for out-of-the-ordinary urban togs. Though the racks are lined with the best New York labels, including Proenza Schouler, Mayle, and Nom de Guerre,...

Screen-prints of pop-culture icons—French singers and muses Françoise Hardy and Serge Gainsbourg front two of the collection's pieces—the almost criminally soft shirts. Co-founders Perry Shimon, and Oliver Kupperhe seek to create quietly personal, everyday pieces that...
by Jonathan Lawhorne "Sustainability has always been integral to our philosophy," says designer Timo Weiland of his new line TIMO!. The eye-popping, graphic wallets (think pixelated scans and wild graphic illustrations) use eco-friendly materials such as recyclable paper, soy ink and post-consumer vinyl in their super-slim design. "We wanted to create basic bi-fold and tri-fold wallets that allowed users to streamline their life with...
by Sydney Pfaff Today, Refinery29 reports on a new neighborhood on the rise in San Pancho (that's SF for those of you not in the know). No longer the middle ground between the gritty, crime-ridden Tenderloin and the slick society of Nob Hill, San Francisco's Lower Nob Hill—sweetly nicknamed the TenderNob—is home to a recent surplus of worthy fashion outposts, restaurants, and specialty shops....

"It happened quickly," says Terline, when asked how long the latest store had been in the works. "This...
