Cool Hunting

New York-based artist Marilyn Minter's grit-meets-glam photorealism is the kind of attention-grabbing painting that stands out in the current Whitney Biennial. But the series of three photo billboards that Creative Time has installed in and around Chelsea are perhaps a better venue (and medium) for the lush imagery. Each 20-foot photograph employs a familiar Minter trope—soiled high heels on women's feet—that stretch over New York City streets and add a hyperreal, large-scale version of daily life transpiring below.
