Last week we stumped you with the trivia question about the magazine editor who has an 800+ collection of tee-shirts that he's been working on for over 20 years. Another clue is that a synonym for the three-letter title of the magazine is "gob."

Submit answers here to win a hoodie.

And you still have until 25 February to get three shirts or more for $10 each by entering the code "tenbucks20" at checkout!

What's Up? News Map

by Evan Orensten

Jeroen Wijering is a recent graduate of the Design Academy in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. One of his most recent projects is a Flash-based news map called What's Up?. New stories are highlighted on the map, and a balloon appears with a headline; clicking on the balloon sends you to the source of the story.

We still think the Newsmap is the most successful news monitor because it also measures the volume of coverage a story is receiving, but we like Jeroen's approach and execution.

Multi-touch User Interface

by Josh Rubin

Abut 10 days ago Apple filed a patent for a touch screen user interface that could respond to more than one touch point at a time. Ever since then, the web has been a buzz with excitement and fantasy about what that means for upcoming Apple products. The most common speculations, fueled by other patents filed around the same time, are a full screen video iPod and a tablet Mac.

Once the speculation frenzy started, this video surfaced and is an excellent demonstration of what you can do with a multi-touch user interface. Created by Jeff Han and team at the Media Research Lab at NYU, the applications shown include drawing, typing, gaming, DJing and most impressively: panning and zooming through maps and topographical models.

Whether Apple is just claiming territory or is actually working on a device that will use a multi-touch user interface is unknown, but obviously we're giddy with anticipation over the latter.

Sony Ericsson W950

by Josh Rubin

W950 Se

Today in Barcelona at the 3GSM conference Sony Ericsson Announced their newest Walkman phone, the W950. The latest hybrid device features a side jog dial and touch screen which should make navigation pretty simple—which is necessary considering the device holds up to 1,000 songs in its 4GB of internal memory. The full color 320x240 screen promises to be super crisp (it's Sony, after all) and can be viewed in a horizontal mode for watching videos. With a flush keypad and slim form factor (15mm), the device should fit nicely in a pocket. No word yet on when it's going to be available, and chances are it won't be distributed by any US carrier, but that's easily averted through our Chinatown hook-up.

More coverage of all this week's 3GSM announcement over at I4U.
