Weeklydrop

by Ami Kealoha

Cool Hunting readers and Sneaker Freaker contributors Jeff Carvalho and Rob Heppler tipped us to Weeklydrop, a podcast catering to footwear enthusiasts that they launched last November. For those who take their sneakers very seriously, Weeklydrop's audio installments cover clothing, art, music, and of course sneaker trends as they develop.

Each week, the hosts (with plenty of droll banter and biting commentary) and their guests offer insight and opinions on the latest trends and products. There's also a weekly newsletter in which subscribers stay on top of the latest developments.

Ooba

by Ami Kealoha

An antidote to everything cutesy and traditional that typically goes along with parenting, the baby revolution continues to grow, fueling more chic design and with it shifting ideas about raising children. Such is the case with Nest, the debut line from Ooba, a Chicago-based furniture company founded by pro-designers Scott Wilson, Kathleen Brandenberg, and brand strategist Dan Kraemer (all first-time parents). The trio's first piece, a modernist bassinet, was designed with current trends towards bedside "cosleepers" in mind. Room-sharing is a safer and more space-efficient alternative to large cribs that require a separate room. Made from bent-ply (available in either birch or walnut veneers) that sits on chrome legs and comes with a Tyvek matress and all-cotton bedding, the bed's aesthetics make it as easy on parents' eyes as it is fear-soothing. Stay tuned for a planned crib, rocker, and glider.

$500 from Ooba.

Malin+Goetz Video Installation

by Jacob Resneck

malin+goetzinstall.jpgMalin+Goetz store between 5pm and 2am this evening. The shampoo and body product store is running videos of male and female models indulging in Malin+Goetz products while in the shower. (Sans towel).

The display will certainly shock some, bemuse others, and titillitate a few. But that's a time-tested strategy behind PR gurus Gorilla Kingdom who designed and produced the project. New videos will be added monthly throughout 2006—barring a court's injunction, that is.

Slow Moving Vehicle Online Shop

by Carol T Chung

SMV-purse.jpg

Back in November I wrote about Slow Moving Vehicle, graffiti art produced by L.A.-based artist Brandon Francis that's applied to canvas, t-shirts, wallets, and purses. He recently added an online shopping section to his website so that viewers can purchase directly from the source. Shown above is my favorite hand painted vintage purse.

Check out the products here. Scroll to the right for the purses, which are $45 (vintage purses are one-of-a-kind so styles may vary).
