To Darrin Hudson, From Jeff Staple by Josh Rubin
Jeff Staple is the creative force behind Staple Design and The Reed Space, both of which marry urban culture and fantastic design. One of his strongest focal points is footwear, Sneakers specifically. On his new blog, To Darrin Hudson, Jeff is cataloging (and selling) his shoe collection one-by-one-- not just for the sake of doing it, but also as the ultimate one-up to his high school rival sneaker collector, Darrin Hudson. Interspersed with posts of pairs, Jeff ponders other stuff as well:
Sometimes, people ask me why I even bother to buy kicks since its obvious I can get them for free. While I truly appreciate the free gifts from everyone, at the heart of it, I'm still a fan. And I like to support things I'm into. There's a certain satisfaction in hunting, looking for and then buying something you really have your eye on. It's the addict in me talking I guess. When you get something for free from someone, it's a different sort of satisfaction. You appreciate what you got but more so, you appreciate the relationship that lies behind the gift. When you go and buy something, it's a satisfaction that is completely innate and carnal...
1. WANT. 2. NEED. 3. ACQUIRE. Never lose sight of what makes you happy.
Well said. I can totally relate.

Shoewawa
I'm not so good about covering stuff for the ladies-- especially when it come to footwear. Fortunately there's a brand new blog from the creators of Shiny Shiny (the girl gadget guide). Shoewawa delivers a sassy report on shoes and even gets a bit in to the trainers. They even have an eBay Watch category to make your hunting easier....

Spring Court U.S.A.
Spring Court, the iconic French tennis shoes, have been available stateside through select stores and boutiques for some time now, but the recent launch of their U.S. website makes it easier to find retailers and to determine if it's worth the trip. For the SS08 collection, which debuted along with the site, Spring Court stays true to its history of simple but functional design,...

For the past seven years Japanese designer Mihara Yasuhiro has been collaborating with Puma on a line of wildly inventive sneakers that has become known—with features like patterns, drips, fur, studs, stripes and metallics—for adding a true avant-garde edge to shoes. Alexandre Herchcovitch Sneakers
At the Alexandre Herchcovitch show at São Paulo Fashion Week, the diamond patterns, gold and fluorescent hues he used on sneakers caught my eye. After the successful show, while everyone swarmed the designer backstage, I was able to get a few pics of the hi-tops as they were being put away (click images for detail). While I don't know much about them except that...

SMITH Magazine
The hyperbolically-titled "bloggers revolution" has changed publishing. Virtually free to publish, the internet phenomenon has created digital publishing, a medium that is simultaneously wholly democratic yet often schizophrenic. Now there's a mag that's unabashedly harnessing the infinite pool of online writing talent into one monthly publication. SMITH Magazine, launched earlier this month, seems to operate on the age-old adage that "everyone has a story...

Loomstate Vans
Here's a sneak peek at Loomstate's new line of Vans due out this February. Made using the same 100% organic cotton that they use to make their clothes (it's a blend of fibers from Turkey, Texas, and Kentucky that Loomstate engineered themselves), the shoes come in classic slip-on and high-top models (pictured) and they're lined in the same signature polka-dot fabric used for interior...
