Cool Hunting
Named after the David Bowie song, The Kooks bear more of a resemblance to Kings of Leon—still young with great indie hair, and dynamite live. But instead of coming from the Deep South, they're from England's South coast. While the Arctic Monkeys are stealing all the headlines at the moment, this four-piece group from the other end of the country tightly wrap up their impeccable influences—The Clash, The Jam, The Police—in infectious two-minute tunes about shagging on sofas and then failing to perform. Check out their website, and keep an eye out for their debut album, Inside In/Inside Out due out this month. In addition to their music, we like the consistent graphic language they've adopted for their singles packaging (see link to iTunes below).
Several singles are available on iTunes.

by Mat Lyon Maths Class are the latest U.K. band exploring the intersection where Post-Rock, New Wave, Pop and (yes) Math Rock collide. From the shards of this genre car crash, they form a compelling racket that's chaotic and precise in equal measure, jerking between passages at super speed and challenging the listener to keep up. They walk a tightrope of technical ability, creative endeavor...
The Invisible are a hotly tipped trio of talented musicians who, after several years of highly acclaimed individual appearances on the U.K. music scene, have now come together as one band to form a unique and inimitable sound. Their pedigree is impeccable, with Dave Okumu featuring in the mighty Matthew Herbert's regular line-up, Leo Taylor currently drumming for Hot Chip and Tom Herbert being...
Since its recent release, we've had the new TV on The Radio album Dear Science on repeat at CH Headquarters. You'd think that between putting out the new album and flexing his thespian muscles in Rachel Getting Married, TV's own Tunde Adebimpe would have little time for anything else. But luckily this isn't the case, as Tunde found the time and inspiration to design...
The Walkmen's new album You & Me has already been one of our oft-played summer albums. A couple years in the making and already getting a more positive response than their last release, the band's trademark lilting vocals (with appropriate nods to Dylan) and soaring arrangements make a good soundtrack for afternoon sailing or lazy bike rides. With the news of the $5 digital...
Deerhoof, the eclectic indie band from San Francisco, have a new take on the remix. They're asking the public to interpret one of their songs but, unlike the average cover song, there's no definitive version to work from. The band released the sheet music for the song "Fresh Born" through CASH Music, an organization that seeks to foster an exchange of ideas between music's...
by Mat Lyon An electronic ensemble from the thriving Oxford music scene, Keyboard Choir could be described as a journey through the history of electronic music. Liberally scattered amongst the fluid electronic soundscapes and massive rib-imploding beats are samples from genres as diverse as contemporary classical composition and hip hop. Their debut album, Mizen Head To Gascanane Sound, boasts expansive electronic sounds that fire...
