RE:UP Magazine Manual #009 by Mike Reger

RE:UP Magazine, my absolute favorite music and design quarterly, just released "Manual #009 - The North Sea Rockers Edition." Every full-color issue explores a visual/musical theme and exposes several hot up-and-coming designers and artists through playful full-page spreads and inventive layouts on uncoated heavy paper stock in an oversized square format. The music covered invariably forms my personal soundtrack for months to come.

This edition spotlights "musicians and producers who are steady rocking it in and around the North Sea." The cover article is an in-depth exclusive: The first and only published US interview with the elusive Boards of Canada (written by my friend Steve Marchese over at scissorkick). They discuss remixing Beck's "Broken Drum," the state of electronic music today, Stevie Wonder, and God. Other features include Annie, Nicolay, Blackalicious, and Gilles Peterson.

Founded by Swiss doctor and scientist Hans Jenny who used simple sine waves to create patterns in powders, liquids and pastes, the book collects images developed over 14 years. The resulting mandalas reference art (like the work of Herwig Weiser), architecture, geometry and nature, among other...
Top Five London Girls
Being a London girl myself who is away from home a lot, I like to keep up with what's happening in my home town while I am on the move. CH has been appreciating London's creativity a lot this year. Famously innovative, eclectic and eccentric, London is still staking its claim on the world style map. These five inspiring women are proving the point...
Factory Records: The Complete Graphic Album
During its heyday in the 80's, Factory Records worked with some of the most brilliant graphic artists around, including Peter Saville, Den Kelly, Mark Farrow, 8VO and Barbara Kruger. Their stylish design is almost as iconic as the era-defining bands (Joy Division, New Order, etc.) that are synonymous with the Manchester-based label. The upcoming new book, Factory Records: The Complete Graphic Album,is the first...
