Cool Hunting
Artist David Flores sees the world in contours. Known for his skeletal drawings and paintings that divide figures and places into outlined shapes, the latest notch on this prolific artist's belt are two limited-edition Dunnys, Bad and Evil (pictured L-R above). "When I see things, I see shapes on top of them . . . the shapes they're made of," Flores explained from his studio in Santa Barbara, California. Starting with a sketch on illustrator file templates, Flores applied his brand of stained glass-like outlines to the Dunny shape. Finished 8" pieces are available in silver and gold, a choice Flores credits to Kid Robot founder Paul Budnitz. The two met several years back when Flores, living in San Francisco nearby the first Kid Robot store on Haight Street, approached Budnitz in the store and introduced himself. "You can't just kick back," Flores says of his bold approach. A veteran of skateboard design (he's held down positions at Deluxe, Shorty's, and, Stereo to name a few), onboard with Start Mobile, working on a slew of other collabos, like with XLARGE, Stussy, and recon, continuing his clothing line sold at Stakes Are High in Tokyo, and with his own vinyl toy, "Konartis", due out from Kid Robot in May, it looks like Flores is doing anything but kicking back.
David Flores' Dunny won't be available in stores until March 9th, but Cool Hunting has one Bad and one Evil Dunny to giveaway to the first two people who correctly name either of Mr. Potatohead's children. I don't smoke, but if I did, I would use one of these new Superflat Ninja Ashtrays (above left). A collaboration with Mexico City's hip houseware brand DFC, Yoko Devereaux expands beyond the tailored knitwear the label's known for to add some well-designed home furnishings. Also included in the collection is the Cabron Bottle Opener (below), a solid brass bottle opener featuring a brass...
In our final pick from the current well-edited selection of goods at NYC boutique Project No. 8 we chose this curiosity/art object by Northern California sculptor Seth Kinmont. "The Still" is an edition of 15 hand-blown pyrex receptacles based on a complex mathematical formula that Kinmont derived to condense, reduce and transform a bottle of wine over the course of dinner. By the end...
Somewhere between a poster and a painting, Pop Cling's digital-fine art reproductions of original works come printed on an adhesive-backed surface that makes it easy to apply to any smooth surface. Featured artists, like Jason Sho Green (pictured, click to zoom), are all up-and-comers with a skate culture vibe. Throw one up on a dorm room wall or apply on a loft's concrete floor...

Swiss-based "interdisciplinary task force" Yuhzimi paired up with the 100-year old Victorinox to create a limited edition line of these artist-designed "Urban Survivor" pocket knives. Maharishi dressed theirs up with their trademark camo, WK Interact's features an abstract figure and a signature on the blade, and Fafi adorns the classic red with one of her heart-cheeked girls. Each features a different set of tools...
We don't know Charles and Marie personally, but judging by their site I think we'd all have plenty to talk about. In addition to their series of blogs, they have just launched Soupe Du Jour-- an on-line shop with something new every day and only available that day. Today there's a mystical keychain from Brazil, tomorrow the sexiest toothbrush on earth and Wednesday an...
