Cool Hunting
Now fixtures in several major European cities, restaurants where guests eat in complete darkness are a growing trend — Los Angeles' Opaque introduced their weekly blackout meals just last July. Now, for the second year running, Dark Dining Projects brings a more artsy, seasonal version to New York. Founded by Dana Salisbury, a multidisciplinary artist, Dark Dining Projects not only forgoes lighting, but approaches the concept as an artistic project, collaborating with chefs, artists, and performers to turn a meal into a "sensory feast." Starting 16 January, the event will take place at Camaje Bistro in the West Village on Mondays and Tuesdays through 28 March, including a special Valentine's Day edition, a singles mixer, and a hand-fed experience. Call 212-673-8184 for reservations.

What happens when an Italian opera director and a Japanese chef collaborate on a restaurant? Cho-Cho San, a new culinary hot spot in NYC's Greenwich Village, is the result of famed Metropolitan Opera director, Fabrizio Melano, and Jun Nagano, of the venerable Taste of Tokyo, joining forces. Named after the heroine of the opera Madama Butterfly, Cho-Cho San's menu combines traditional Japanese fare with...
When we were putting together our tofu video, Tim mentioned Kyotofu, the Manhattan tofu restaurant opened in October 2006 that's reinventing tofu for the American palate with their delicious assortment of desserts and savory dishes. We contacted owners Nicole Bermensolo and Michael Berl, longtime friends from college, and recently found ourselves in their minimalist jewel box of a dining room, enjoying treats like chicken-tofu...
Maoz, a vegetarian falafel chain that originated in Europe, has finally made its way to New York. With green geometrically patterned walls, bright lights and a clean, simple menu, walking into Maoz is like entering a healthy middle eastern wonderland. Serving fresh falafal balls and juices, the centerpiece of the spot is a beautifully-laid out salad bar like no other. When one thinks salad...
The latest addition to NYC's Chelsea Market is the Ronnybrook Milk Bar featuring Ronnybrook Farm's line of milk, yogurt, cheese and ice cream incorporated into seasonal breakfast and lunch menus. Team CH stopped by this morning for some Moocachinos and Eggs-in-a-hole, and spoke to purveyor Mark Sarosi about his foray into brand extension, the possibility of bringing Ronnybrook to the airport and lactose intolerance....
If you haven’t heard about the wonders of Pinkberry, it's neither a new fragrance nor a nasty skin condition but rather a frozen yogurt phenomena that's already taken over LA and recently opened their first NYC location in Koreatown. Available in only two flavors, plain and green tea (although I've heard no one ever gets the green tea), it’s the many toppings—fresh fruit, crunchy...
Max Brenner, the Isreali chocolatier behind a line of eponymous chocolates and a global chain of restaurants/boutiques, is on a mission to create a "new chocolate culture." Since the British invention of the chocolate bar by Frye and Sons in 1847, not much has changed about the way we eat chocolate. Sure, you'll find Green tea-infused fillings and single-origins so fine they're kept in...
