Cool Hunting
The 2nd edition of Cut & Paste, the Iron Chef-like live design competition, is taking it back to analog in an event featuring four of New York's best designers and artists. On 4 February Thunderdog founder Tristan Eaton and Fudgefactory's Travis Millard side-by-side with David Ellis and Kenji Hirata of the Barnstormers will make art during the party at NYC's Supper Club. This time it's unplugged; giant canvasses replace computers and the results will be auctioned with proceeds benefitting The New York Foundation for the Arts. Set to a soundtrack by DJs Spinna, Rich Medina, and Rude Movements' Tyler Askew, there will also be a live tattoo demonstration onstage by Troy Denning.

A little more than a year ago, CH sponsored Cut & Paste, the first design competition to square designers against each other in a live tournament-style battle. From the initial sold-out event in NYC, Cut & Paste has grown into a nationwide tour with stops in four cities featuring local designers and judges in each spot. For episode 55, CH joined the party that...
A participatory highlight of London's Design Festival, the London Design Challenge tasks members of the design community and general public with imagining ways to make London a better place to live and visit. With transport, entertainment, street-life, environment and housing themes, ideas so far include Poke's painting London white (an homage to This Boy's Life?), as well as Tom Dixon's electric bus and Barbara...
If you had to name countries famous for design, Italy or somewhere in Scandinavia would probably be the first places that spring to mind. But what about the U.K.? In the past century, British designers have hit the form/function bullseye more regularly then you might realize. London's Design Museum and the BBC's Culture Show are collaborating on the Great British Design Quest to discover...
After much deliberation, the 8 contestants who will compete to be the Cut & Paste champion have been chosen. The competition is this Saturday, November 19th at M1-5 at 52 Walker St. The contestants, in alphabetical order, are presented after the jump....
As you may remember, we're sponsoring the Wacom Cintiq-- competitors will be on stage drawing on these LCD tablets which are big enough (21") for the audience to see the work in progress. I dropped by the motion graphics firm UV/Phactory earlier this week to get a demo of the Cintiq and was pretty blown away. The screen is crisp and clear, the surface...
For the inaugural video in our new series of mini-episodes, we're pleased to present a document of the New Orleans-based Billes Architecture's first-ever design competition. We were honored to be invited as a judge and, as you'll see in the video, the results are nothing less than stunning and—perhaps—harbingers of the design future....
