Cool Hunting
Hailing from Germany's southern wine country, Compost Records has spent the past 11 years perfecting and then re-inventing their recipe for releasing some of the most sought-after and intoxicating independent left-field club music. Dispensing with tired cliches like nu-jazz, brazil-electro or downtempo, Compost's forward-thinking compilation series "Future Sound of Jazz", "Soulsearching", "Glücklich" and "I Like It" have continuously set the mark for high quality dance music that defies easy categorization.
To celebrate their 200th release, Compost 200 presents a splendid tasting of recent vinyl offerings from underground remix artist favorites Alex Attias, Beanfield, Domu, Intuit, Trüby Trio, Laurent Garnier, Henrick Schwarz, and more as well as a sampling of upcoming album material from new artists Alif Tree, Jean-Paul Bondy, Muallem and Ben Mono.
Stand outs include the opening fabulously cheeky disco funk hooks of "Protection (Sirius Mo Remix)" by Ben Mono and Bajka, and the wicked cosmic funk of "Transmission" by Ben Mono and Capitol A, as well as the total dance floor scorcher "10,000 Leagues Deeper (Laurent "Laboratoire" Garnier Remix) by Alex Attias, Bembe Segue & Mustang and the brokenbeat madness of Domu's remix of "Shamed" by Eddie Meets Yannah. This is a perfect compilation for any impromptu holiday party after-party, makes an excellent stocking stuffer in its special CD packaging, and is available at the iTunes store as well.

Bleep has released a free MP3 EP to toast the new year for all registered users: Bleep Oh Six. It's a truly eclectic selection, as one might expect from Bleep, covering everything from cheeky roller-rink electro funk (Jimmy Edgar's "My Beats" and National Trust's "It's Just Cruel"), to surgically doctored indie-rock (Battles' "IPT2"), to acid techno shenanigans (Kero's "untitled (On Acid Again") and even...
You know the feeling you get when you throw a DJ mix on your portable device for the first time and on your way out the door—even before you've adjusted the headset and locked the door behind you—you know you've got the perfect soundtrack to rock out and paint the town infrared? I've had FabricLive: The Herbaliser on infinite loop on my iPod for...
Following the stunning "Remixes 1997-2000," the eclectic album of originals "In Between," "In Between Remixed" and the dancefloor approved dj mix "Mixing," the Berlin-based six-member collective Jazzanova presents "The Remixes 2002-2005," a compilation of released, unreleased and brand new—if you haven't guessed it—remixes. Though shorter in number of tracks by far to the original "Remixes" collection, this new edition does not skimp on quality....
For years, Ghostly International, the indie juggernaut of Avant-Pop music, has been redefining the record industry with innovative collaborations and a brand awareness that puts most labels to shame. On 21 April, the fruits of their latest collaborative efforts paid off in the release of "Ghostly Swim", a 19-song compilation made exclusively for Adult Swim and available for free download. The kicker? Ghostly mascots...
Beginning in May, experimental composers Marie-Claire Brycztwa and Sudhu Tewari will host a seven-month "audio play" called Radio Village Nomade. Broadcast daily from a makeshift village in La Corbière, Switzerland, the 214-day project will feature live performances, as well as audio submissions from sound manipulators the world over. The concept is to let people define for themselves what constitutes a moment in time and...
Currently making quite a murmur on the London music scene is Tallulah Rendall. This singer-songwriter has been quietly honing her craft over the past few years, playing the odd festival here and there, but it wasn't until she was invited by the legendary Shirley Bassey to sing at her 70th birthday party last year that things really started to take off. Last week Tallulah...
