Cool Hunting
Opened a couple weeks ago by Joseph Reid and Chad Vo, Behaviour is a welcomed addition to the Chelsea shopping scene. The men's shop includes home goods, accessories and bags, in addition to lots of great clothes. Their curatorial slant is urban streetwear chic with an emphasis on younger and newer designers not easily found anywhere else. From local brands like Salt Denim and t-shirts by Anush Mirbegian to the French line Homecore or Italian Franklin Marshall, the collection at Behaviour is truly unique and exciting. There's also a gallery in the back of the shop which currently has a wonderful photo exhibit from Aliona Yurtsevich which will be up through February.

Leading the way in grown-up street wear, Public School recently released Fall/Winter 2008, their second collection. We've been into their clean cut but somewhat edgy designs since the label launched last year; the quality materials and subtle details set them apart from the rest of the rack at Barneys or Fred Segal. Their new NY Hearts Me t-shirt (not available until next Fall 2008),...
One of the hottest new arrivals topping the list of Manhattan shopping destinations is the WESC Store in SoHo. The Swedish-based WESC (aka WeAretheSuperlativeConspiracy) creates a line of street clothes with its roots in skateboard culture but also delivers "after the skate," a highly-developed line of apparel that targets people outside of the boarding community. Like true street subculture, they embrace the concept of...
In time for holiday shoppers looking for an alternative to Soho madness, the Go East guide condenses an assortment of the neighborhood's shops, services, and restaurants into a take along brochure-sized pamphlet. The free booklet comes with a "Shopping & Rewards Program" card, giving users discounts at the featured locations and, after accumulating $500 in receipts, a $50 credit at top LES restaurants. From...
Salvor Kiosk is the new destination in New York to find Salvor's unique screenprinted tees and pillows. An online store launches today on the heels of the Soho store at 95 Spring Street that opened its doors yesterday. Located within Salvor designer and kiosk co-founder, Ross Menuez's studio, the retail space on one hand is what Menuez envisions as "a lab" to test out...
Shop Gentei, the concept store that opened October 1st in Baltimore, Maryland is the brainchild of 28-year old designer Oliver Jones. Two years in the making, Jones waited until Baltimore's scene could support a themed boutique - currently Military, the theme will change bi-annually - that carries limited edition sneakers and off-the-beaten-path streetwear, like his own Slyandrobby line and Japan's Mackdaddy. Thanks to Jones'...
“I hate shopping” are the famous last words for Cool Hunting’s Ranjani Gopalarathinam, who finally understands that shopping is a talent, and not merely a consumerist distraction from "more important things in life". Her fabulous new book, "New York’s 50+ Best Little Shops" (Rizzoli/Universe, 2005), maps the city out as a macrocosm of style and imagination, staying pretty clear of chains and corporate clones...
