Base
by Josh Rubin
For better or worse, the Lincoln Road Mall on South Miami Beach is quite reminiscent of New York's 7th Avenue in the West Village. One shop however, Base, stands out from the rest by offering an exceptionally curated suite of both products and services. Owner Steven Giles says "we're less about labels and more about the ongoing (and less easily defined) culture of the store, but amongst the labels we’re most proud to be associated with would definitely include Isabella Capetto, Nice Collective, Lemar and Dauley, Maharishi, Martin Margiela and Comme Des Garcons."
But it's not just about clothing and accessories, there's a service slant at Base. An in-house salon, Snip, and a CD Bar offer visitors style and satisfaction on a more soulful level. And the folks at Base have also been known to publish music, design resort uniforms and produce events.
Information about the store and several items for sale can be found on their site, baseworld.com.

i-D Brick
by Ami Kealoha
Celebrating their 25th year in print, i-D Magazine teamed up with Argentine designer Alejandro Sarmiento and the Malba, Buenos Aires' modern art museum, to create this storage container for i-D back issues. The "i-D Brick" features a honeycomb design that "elevates your mags to art book status" and comes either empty for $49 or with 11 or 12 of some of i-D's rarest issues for $400.
Currently available at the Malba store and at London's Fashion and Textile Museum, the collectable edition will travel throughout 2006 to Paris, Tokyo, New York, Sao Paulo, Hong Kong, and Beijing with an exhibition called i-Dentity. The show celebrates two and a half decades of i-D, including work by Hussein Chalayan, JT Leroy, Wolfgang Tillmans and curated by the magazine's founder, creative director, and editor-in-chief Terry Jones.

Jazzanova: The Remixes 2002-2005
by Mike Reger
Following the stunning "Remixes 1997-2000," the eclectic album of originals "In Between," "In Between Remixed" and the dancefloor approved dj mix "Mixing," the Berlin-based six-member collective Jazzanova presents "The Remixes 2002-2005," a compilation of released, unreleased and brand new—if you haven't guessed it—remixes.
Though shorter in number of tracks by far to the original "Remixes" collection, this new edition does not skimp on quality. Adding their precise yet fluid nujazz and future soul production technics to tracks by New Zealand dubsters Fat Freddy's Drop, Heavy, Masters at Work and jazz legend Roy Ayers, "brazillian-hero" Marcos Valle, quirky 60's act the Free Design, Shaun Escoffery, Eddie Gale, Status IV, Calexico and Finland's Nuspirit Helsinki, Jazzanova has once again provided a masterful collection of past and future musical styles suitable for the home and the lounge club.
Like the original "Remixes," the vinyl version comes in a utlitarian screenprinted cardboard boxset. The CD version and the vinyl version come with a matching screen-printed blank CDR so you can burn a copy for yourself.
For sound samples, purchasing, tour dates (upcoming shows in Chicago, D.C., NYC, Orlando, Atlanta and LA) and other info, visit Jazzanova.
Tickets for their January 15th show in NYC are available at Giant Step.

Cannabis Candles from IIKH
by Evan Orensten
These candles are part of a new collection at IIKH, one of our favorite stores for well designed green products. They are made from vegetable wax and have a cotton wick, which means they burn cleaner and longer than most. Other fragrances in the line include Basil, Black Tea, Hyacinth and Lime Blossom. Proudly made in NYC.
Votives are $10 and candles $28 and are available online from IIKH.
12/22/05 Update: We got word from IIKH that the candles are backordered until January
