Alife Members Only Jacket

by Ami Kealoha

alifemembersonly.jpg

The latest in the Members Only resurrection is this luxe leather collabo (the first of 13 planned) with Alife. Lined in red satin and made from lambskin, the classic racer jacket is the same cut as the original that Members Only first introduced in 1981. The limited edition features a midnight blue leather body, black leather arms, and the shoulder insert panels are a jaunty perforated leather. Available exclusively in Alife's New York boutique, their just-opened Vancouver spot, and at select stores in Japan, only 120 pieces will be produced.

Detailed images after the jump.

My Prescription for Anti-Depressive Living by Jonathan Adler

by Evan Orensten

jadler.jpg

I invited Jonathan to lunch to talk about his new book, My Prescription for Anti-Depressive Living. He was in a great mood, partly due to the holiday gift I had just given him—a pretty scarce book, and more importantly, one he hadn't discovered yet— Liberace Cooks. It's not easy trying to give him something he hasn't seen before. He's wearing his trademark vintage Lacoste shirt and vintage Levi's cords, his Rod Laver's and a simple Rolex. Here's what he had to say about life, and his new book, from his table at the restaurant near his office where he eats lunch every day.

CH: When we first met in 1992 in New York City (Jonathan lived with a friend of mine from college at the time), you were working as a talent agent. How did you transition from a job you didn't really care for into building a style empire?

JA: I experimented with pottery while I was in college, but it didn't seem like it was something I could earn a living at. It was only after, thankfully, a few years working in the talent industry that I realized the only talent I cared about was my own. I was also young and naïve and very motivated to do my own thing. I wake up every day and couldn't be happier with what I'm doing.

CH: But how did you go from potter to retailer to licensor to author in such a short time?

Loomstate Vans

by Ami Kealoha

loomstatevans.jpg

Here's a sneak peek at Loomstate's new line of Vans due out this February. Made using the same 100% organic cotton that they use to make their clothes (it's a blend of fibers from Turkey, Texas, and Kentucky that Loomstate engineered themselves), the shoes come in classic slip-on and high-top models (pictured) and they're lined in the same signature polka-dot fabric used for interior panels of their jeans.

Laces

by Ami Kealoha

laces.jpg

New York's very first all-female sneaker boutique, Laces, opened yesterday in a sliver of a store on Nolita's Mott Street. The brainchild of Kicksclusive magazine founder, Louis W. Colon III, 26, the store caters to a growing clientele of women who want a shoe-buying experience more along the lines of male-oriented counterparts Alife and Nort than the mall-like retailers a few streets over on Broadway. A limited selection of exclusive and fashion-conscious shoes, monthly product launches and events, personalized customer service, and an atmosphere "that's not a boys club," as Colon puts it, make the new spot a standout among sneaker stores and neighboring Nolita boutiques alike.

Designed by his older sister, interior designer Jennifer Colon, the new space features spare lines, poured concrete, and subtle decorative touches like draped fabrics and mini-crystal chandeliers. Along one wall, inset shelving displays Nikes, Reeboks, and, a new women's series by Creative Recreation (an East Coast exclusive and currently only available for pre-order). Future lines will include DC Shoes and plans to collaborate with Pony. Over 30 pairs of laces, seasonal inventory for kids, and tees will complete the store's offerings and the opposite wall will feature artwork by women.

Open from noon-7pm Wednesday-Friday, Mondays and Tuesdays will be reserved for appointments only.

Behaviour

by Josh Rubin

Behaviournyc3 Behaviournyc4

Opened a couple weeks ago by Joseph Reid and Chad Vo, Behaviour is a welcomed addition to the Chelsea shopping scene. The men's shop includes home goods, accessories and bags, in addition to lots of great clothes. Their curatorial slant is urban streetwear chic with an emphasis on younger and newer designers not easily found anywhere else. From local brands like Salt Denim and t-shirts by Anush Mirbegian to the French line Homecore or Italian Franklin Marshall, the collection at Behaviour is truly unique and exciting. There's also a gallery in the back of the shop which currently has a wonderful photo exhibit from Aliona Yurtsevich which will be up through February.

More pics and a list of their brands after the jump.
