Art Basel: Art Positions, Containers
by Josh Rubin
A short walk from the main happenings at the Miami Beach Convention Center is Art Positions. The show includes 20 young galleries featuring their artists in shipping containers converted into exhibition spaces. The work here is much more experimental and edgier than that at the main venue and the containers are a challenging venue that some galleries embraced and used well. After the jump are some of last night's shots from in and around several of the gallery containers.
Sony DSC M2
by Josh Rubin
Our friends over at Compact Impact just alerted us to the fact that they are getting some of these incredible little Sony twisty 5 Megapixel still and video cameras in time for the holidays. So, of course, we added it to the Gift Guide (in addition to a few other things).
Art Basel: Grand Opening
by Josh Rubin
Now in its 4th year on Miami Beach, Art Basel opened doors last night to an eager crowd of collectors, dealers, artists and press. The main event is at the Convention Center, but the overwhelming popularity of Basel has resulted in many outcroppings of art all over Miami and Miami Beach. After the jump are some shots of work (both old and new) we saw and loved last night. Stay tuned for lots more posts from Basel, Scope, Nada, Design Miami and more.

Alena Hennessy
by Evan Orensten
Alena Hennessy introduced her work to us and we liked what we saw. She's an artist from Asheville, NC who expresses herself through painting, drawing, t-shirts and tiles. Her work is soft and feminine and natural. We liked it so much we've included her scarf in our Gift Guide today.
