Cool Hunting
Second to actually experiencing Snibbe's interactive installations is watching his recent DVD anthology that has several examples of how people react to the work. Expressions of delight and wonder are common as onlookers discover the playful conceits that drive the pieces, like in Blow Up, small transmitter fans that "amplify" viewers' breath to a wall of large fans that creates a wind field pattern. Best is the awkward choreography that projected work inspires. Audiences are prone to waving their hands or hopping across screens as they push video images around the screen or capture their sillhouetted image - it would be fascinating to see a piece by Snibbe that flipped the switch so that his devices dictated the movements of observers.
