Scott Snibbe DVD

by Ami Kealoha

scottsnibbedvd.jpg

Second to actually experiencing Snibbe's interactive installations is watching his recent DVD anthology that has several examples of how people react to the work. Expressions of delight and wonder are common as onlookers discover the playful conceits that drive the pieces, like in Blow Up, small transmitter fans that "amplify" viewers' breath to a wall of large fans that creates a wind field pattern. Best is the awkward choreography that projected work inspires. Audiences are prone to waving their hands or hopping across screens as they push video images around the screen or capture their sillhouetted image - it would be fascinating to see a piece by Snibbe that flipped the switch so that his devices dictated the movements of observers. Also included in the DVD are screen-based works that you can preview on his website.

Pick it up from Amazon.

The Ball Out

by Josh Rubin

Alife Pump

Freshness got the scoop on the Alife x Reebok Tennis ball show we covered earlier:

"THE BALL OUT" is an ALIFE/Reebok Court Victory Pump, fabricated by hand entirely out of tennis ball felt. "THE BALL OUT" is limited to 48 pairs and will be distributed exclusively through ALIFE. An original ALIFE design, "THE BALL OUT" is the first of three products to be born from a collaborative relationship between ALIFE and Reebok.

Stay tuned to Freshness for news on the drop.
