Mo' Munny: Mike Shinoda

by Ami Kealoha

mikeshinoda.jpg mikeshinodamunny.jpg

This Munny (part of the LA Munny show that opens tomorrow along with shows in New York and San Francisco) comes from multi-tasker Mike Shinoda, who not only is Linkin' Park's MC but also a trained graphic artist, has designed a shoe with DC and is responsible for the painting pictured above right. Next up is his hip-hop side project Fort Minor, whose debut album, The Rising Tied, hits shelves November 22nd. Billed as "unadulterated hip hop," tracks on a sampler mix tape balance new school production (think Middle East-tinged loops) with rock influences, like Zeppelin samples and, at times, sound like fellow West Coasters, Cypress Hill. Every track on the album was written by the Southern California native Shinoda and he played most of the instruments. On the heels of the Linkin Park and Jay-Z mash-up, retiree Jay-Z steps in as executive producer on the disc and it includes collaborations with Common, John Legend, Kenna, and Black Thought.

Wired Pop-Up Store

by Ami Kealoha

Wiredstore1

The online Wired Store gets an offline component starting November 18th in New York's Soho (160 Wooster at Houston). Timed to coincide with the holidays, the store will feature a wide range of Wired-approved gadgets for just under six weeks, closing its doors on December 24th. Products for sale include the coveted new Motorola PEBL phone as well as over 65 others from Wired's cadre, which will be purchased via digital checkout kiosks (i.e. their website), eliminating the hassle of shopping bags. On weekends they'll provide a free Volkswagen car service to shoppers' next destinations and other events, like Flavorpill DJs and product giveaways, will occur throughout the week. And, for the person who has everything (and to benefit a good cause), a Space Adventures trip to space (valued at over $100k) will be auctioned to benefit the Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation.
