Shop Gentei by Ami Kealoha

Shop Gentei, the concept store that opened October 1st in Baltimore, Maryland is the brainchild of 28-year old designer Oliver Jones. Two years in the making, Jones waited until Baltimore's scene could support a themed boutique - currently Military, the theme will change bi-annually - that carries limited edition sneakers and off-the-beaten-path streetwear, like his own Slyandrobby line and Japan's Mackdaddy. Thanks to Jones' four-year stint in Japan, every Japanese brand Gentei carries is exclusive to the U.S., including the standout AG and the distinctly Japanese jewelry line Garni. If you're not planning a trip to Baltimore anytime soon, Gentei's plans for an online store are in the works.
Thanks to A Silent Flute for the tip.

Shopping Vancouver: 4 Favorites
In the last 24 hours I've hoofed all over most of downtown Vancouver looking for hot retail and interesting products. This is a great little city with lots to see and do, but being the turbo consumer that I am, my focus was clear. Results after the jump....

Public School T-shirt and Jacket
Leading the way in grown-up street wear, Public School recently released Fall/Winter 2008, their second collection. We've been into their clean cut but somewhat edgy designs since the label launched last year; the quality materials and subtle details set them apart from the rest of the rack at Barneys or Fred Segal. Their new NY Hearts Me t-shirt (not available until next Fall 2008),...

Ubiq Fall/Winter 2007
Japanese brand Ubiq always comes up with head-turning, sometimes offbeat designs when it comes to their footwear. The latest 2007 Fall/Winter collection is no different. My favorites from the group have to be the Braska and Bernadette models. A mid-cut boot, the Braska (right) is not as clunky as most urban hiking alternatives. The most innovative feature is the gator-like fleece sock appended to...

On Location: Marrakech
Meandering through the souks of Marrakech's infamous buzzing Medina can make you feel as though you've traveled back in time. Linger down the narrow stone streets to find mismatched tins piled high with fresh gem-colored spices and racks teeming with colorful babouches (Moroccan slippers). Or hop a taxi to Le Guéliz, where you'll see young Marrakechis dining al fresco at Parisian-style cafés and toting...

Refinery29: Montreal, Part 1
It's where Rufus Wainwright and Arcade Fire call home and a slew of cultural happenings such as Pop Montreal and New Cinema film festival annually pack the city limits. But Canada's French jewel is also a burgeoning fashion playground with a handful of promising designers operating under the radar. Head to the Mile End district, which was formerly a stretch of old industrial factories...

Refinery29: Liborius, Reykjavik
When the impossibly stylish creatures of Reykjavic need something new and natty to wear, the sharpest of them are now heading to the just-opened Liborius. Designer Jòn Sæundur is famous locally for his Dead clothing line—a dark, vicious collection with a fan base that includes members of Metallica and Placebo—and now his new boutique is following suit.
