Cool Hunting

The Grimm's fairytale of the Bremen Town musicians tells the fable of a donkey, dog, cat, and rooster who, fed up with their day jobs, venture into the world to pursue lives as musicians. For Ontour, a new line out of the Netherlands, the tale was inspiration to launch their clothing label and became the source material for the four shirts in their debut collection. Using a cartoonish trumpet as a logo and images of balloon animals, the series features raining cats and donkeys, patterns made up of tiny versions of the creatures, and a playful reference to traditional imagery (and the Maurizio Cattelan sculpture) of the characters stacked on one another.
Currently Ontour tees are only available at select stores in Europe and online at Fresh Cotton.

by Julie Wolfson Actor and MC, the Mighty Mos Def has a long list of unique collaborations and projects including starring on Broadway in Suzan-Lori Parks play "Topdog/Underdog," playing a video store employee in Michel Gondry's "Be Kind Rewind" and hosting "Def Poetry" on HBO. Now Mos Def is one of the first artists to release his new album, "The Ecstatic," in a t-shirt format....
Named after the music venue just outside their home city of Baltimore, Merriweather Post Pavillion, Animal Collective's ninth album, might be my favorite of theirs thus far. Officially released today, 20 January 2009, over the years the band has meticulously crafted an unmistakable sound which this latest release continues to refine. Where their chants and ambient sounds may have been too avant garde for...
If listening to the new album on repeat isn't enough, now fans have a new way to show their affection for Grizzly Bear with the release of two new t-shirt designs, available next week, by artists J. Penry and Brendan Donelly. Penry is known for his engrossing and subversive illustrations, as well as his quirky, Daily Candy-endorsed pet portraits. He delivers a mix of...
Cool Hunting is happy to announce Insound 20, a music and design project launching today. The independent online music retailer joined forces with designer Jason Munn, of Small Stakes fame, to create iconic designs for 20 of Insound's favorite bands. The images are silk-screened onto American Apparel t-shirts and hoodies, as well as limited-edition, hand-numbered posters. This year's bands are: Beirut, Black Heart Procession,...
Oakland-based artist Nat Russell's t-shirts for Mollusk Surf Shop showcase his increasingly recognizable style. My favorites include "Sea Kat" featuring his signature pipe-smoking lion motif, the "Kyle" shirt which has a wavy-bearded man that bears an unintentional resemblance to musician Kyle Field of Little Wings and "Totally Stoked" one of three new designs for women available in two colors. All shirts are printed on...
Even before Hot Topic pretty much ruined any kind of legit fandom, wearing a concert tee (unless is was a homemade "This is Not a Fugazi T-shirt" or Mr. Bungle's rare sort-of subtle masturbation celebration) was a sell out move. That's why we particularly appreciate U.K. t-shirt maker Worn By's AKA line of tees that pay homage to bands by referencing names they had...
