Hokusai's famous wave, already re-imagined by Kozyndan as a tide of bunnies, got a new medium when Levi's exec and surfer Caroline Calvin handcrafted a 22 foot by 12 foot jeans mosaic that depicts a detail of the "The Great Wave." Called "Love and Peace," after debuting at a special event during Los Angeles's fashion week this Wednesday October 19th and showing a second time in Japan, 32 of the 35 pairs from the artwork will be distributed and sold in stores in New York, London, Los Angeles, Tokyo and San Francisco. Each unique piece has the words "Love and Peace" across the back, features a button from Calvin's personal collection, comes with a scroll describing the process with photographs by her husband, photographer Peter Calvin, and will retail for $1,000. Damien Hirst's fascination with skulls may be outdone only by his love of jeans. On his latest project for a collaboration with the Levi's brand he's incorporated both, and we're happy to bring you the first look. Like his line from earlier this year, the British artist has teamed with the iconic jeans company to release a limited-edition run of what Hirst describes as...
Chris Beckman has moved from the canvas to denim in a new series of work for Polo Jeans Co. A limited edition of 600 hand painted jeans, inspired by Chris's work, will be sold to help promote the denim company's GIVE (Get Involved. Volunteer. Exceed.) program to encourage community service. I was skeptical of how good these would look, but given the opportunity to...
An exclusive first look, Context drops another collabo today, this time with Kicking Mule Workshop for an ultra limited-edition pair of denim pants. A small production of only 50 pairs worldwide, the shuttle-loomed denim leaves a clean white selvage line—but the dying process is what really sets them apart. To make the dye, harvests of the indigo leaves from the Okayama Prefecture in Japan...
by Laura Neilson In 2007, 23-year-old Erik Madigan Heck founded Nomenus Quarterly with the kind of arrogant fervor that only someone at that age could pull off. And perhaps it was that very same aplomb that made the multifaceted art and fashion publication so notoriously successful. Just one glance at the archives' roster of featured artists, designers and contributors, including Dries Van Noten, Helmut...
French label Aprill 77 emphasizes high quality construction and fabrics and in their first year they have already made an impact on the denim scene. A standout from their upcoming Fall/Winter 2009 line is their Japanese selvedge stretch denim pant and jacket. It's the first we've heard of stretch selvedge denim. There are only two factories in the world that can produce this type...

Inspired by her childhood in Senegal, Abram's designs incorporate wood, ceramic, cotton, glass, leather, resin, mother of pearl, onyx, turquoise, tiger eye and crystal in her work. The chains she has handmade in Senegal....
