Madonna's Disco Love

by Ari Bendersky

Madonna_cover.jpg

As with everything Madonna does, she does it with style, creativity and of course a ton of mystery. Step by step, Madge is revealing information about her forthcoming all-dance album, Confessions on a Dancefloor. The first single, the electro-disco-inspired “Hung Up,” is set to drop Oct. 17, with the album hitting stores Nov. 15. (I’ve heard about one minute of "Hung Up" and if it’s indicative of the rest of the album, this winter is going to be H-O-T-T.)

Madonna just slipped the artwork for the album’s cover on her official website. The image shows Madonna on the ground, in a ballet-dance-yoga sort of pose, wearing ‘70s-inspired silky short-shorts and flowy top, high heels and silky strawberry hair, a la Julianne Moore in Boogie nights.

But what’s most striking to me about the design is the choice of the logotype for her name. If there’s a more iconic image of the cocaine-fueled nights of Studio 54 than a disco ball, I beg you to tell me.

While the album doesn't drop for a couple of months, you can pre-order it now.

Burton Store NYC

by Josh Rubin

Burton-Store-Soho

Further proving Burton is as much about fashion as it is function, they've just opened a store in the heart of SoHo. Situated on the corner of Spring and Mercer, the store includes the full range of products from each of the Burton brands: Red, Anon, Analog, Gravis and of course Burton. The highlight is their 20 degree below zero testing room. It's a minimally decorated ice box with a mirror, window and some seating-- a perfect way to get a quick sense of how warm the gear really is. Stay tuned for some mountain trips and other events coming to the store this winter.

The Drama 6

by Ami Kealoha

thedrama6.jpg

The Drama is a lo-fi magazine based in Virginia that covers off-the-beaten-track culture. Printed on matte stock, their most recent issue includes lush landscape photos that circumnavigate the globe by Russell Kleyn, profiles of artists and designers, exhibition and music reviews, and, in a newly added section in the back of the book, an interview with Caroline Hwang and comics by Vanessa Davis. Flipping through it is almost like meditating, a calming break from the more frenetic image-saturated pages usually found out there. You can find it at independent bookstores and magazine stores or pick it (and other artist-designed items) up at their retail counterpart The Drama Store.
