Half Pint Power by Ari Bendersky

halfpint_ab.jpg

Your favorite pint glass just got more useful. From Innermost comes a stylish and functional half-pint mug. Currently available only in the UK, the mug comes in white and black and has a twin wall so hot beverages (read: green tea or a vanilla latte) won’t burn your hands and cold beverages stay cool like they’re supposed to. The mugs run £9.95 each (about $18) and look to be worth every penny (pence?). Innermost is also guilty of producing the Pull-Up Vase and the Ghost Vase, two very cool, fairly functional and stylish pieces. Check out the whole line of lamp shades, vases and homewares on their website.

Etienne Meneau's Little Heart Glass
After making a name for himself with a series of unusually-shaped carafes, Etienne Meneau is doing it again with his newest glass piece, named Petit Coeur (little heart). We like how the design recreates the heart in an abstract way by reinterpreting the atriums and ventricles. And is that spout the aorta? Fill it with wine and the puns/comparisons are endless. Wine is good...
Brilliant: Bombay Sapphire Designer Glass
Currently in 4th Place for the “People’s Prize” in the Bombay Sapphire Designer Glass Awards, we like Frida Jeppsson’s submission titled “Brilliant." It is one of 21 entries from young designers from all over the world. Representing Sweden, the 24-year-old Stockholmian's entry is a marriage of form and function creating a perfectly balanced piece that remains true to the brief of the prize. Jeppsson...
Riedel Decanters
New from the generations-old family glassware-makers Riedel, this series of decanters takes its inspiration from birds for a collection that's as striking as it is functional. Designed by Maximillian Riedel (also responsible for leading the stemless revolution) and his father Georg and handmade by artisans in their Austrian factory, the leaded crystal vessels are all aerodynamic lines and dramatic dimensions. While the Swan (above...
Beaker Juice Glass
The new Beaker Juice Glass from cb2 is another great example of reworking the classic design of disposable everyday items by using high-quality materials. Made from heat-tempered chem lab beaker glass, the "Pixie cups" are hand-blown, transforming the humble paper cup into an attractive conversation piece. A less expensive alternative to the Ceramic Party cups we featured in our 2006 Gift Guide, at $2...
