Seeking Green Striped Headphones
by Josh Rubin
Our friend Rebecca picked up a pair of these fun green striped Zumreed headphones during her last trip to Tokyo. Unfortunately they were just destroyed in the hands of an adorable yet mischievous toddler. Anyway, I'm putting a call out to see if any of you know of a venue, on-line or in the physical world, that sells these and will ship to New York. Let us know.
Time Out Chicago: Just for Kicks
by Josh Rubin
Josh Rubin, who runs the trend-spotting blog Cool Hunting, was among the first to try it out in Manhattan this past Spring. "I liked the fact that it takes customization away from the computer and in to your hands," he says. "You get a better sense of the different colors and materials that you're choosing. I also really liked that there's a bit of an element of surprise-- even though you know what the finished shoe will look like, you have to have a bit of creative vision to see how all the pieces will look stitched up."

Light at the End of the Tunnel
by Ari Bendersky
The wait is almost over. After coming out of complete obscurity to turn the world upside down in early 2004, Franz Ferdinand has spent the better part of the last six months writing and recording. And they’re just now teasing us with the first single from its forthcoming new album. Well, sort of.
In connection with URB magazine’s exclusive interview and cover story with the band (full disclosure: I occasionally write for the magazine), Franz’s first single, “Do You Want To,” is being streamed on URB’s MySpace page. I’m not sure how long it’ll be up there, so make sure you hit it ASAP.
Alex Kapranos and his fellow Scots will release their second album, You Could Have it So Much Better…with Franz Ferdinand, on October 3 – and it seems like the whole world will be watching. There’s been a lot of mystery surrounding this project and if you read the NME you know what I’m talking about.
Happy listening.
TheFoodLoop
by Evan Orensten
Florence Fabricant wrote about TheFoodLoop in yesterday's New York Times and it's a great little invention: A simple worm-like heat-resistant reusable silicone fastener that you use to keep food together when you cook it. Unlike string or other fasteners, it doesn't break, stick, dry out or burn. Oven safe to 675ºF, expandable by linking multiple loops together, and dishwasher safe, it's time to throw your kitchen twine away.
