Cool Hunting
Fittingly in time for winter, Lapland's famed Icebar is making its way to London's decidedly fashionable Heddon Street later this year. Joining the ranks of the world's most absurdly ambitious clubs and lounges, this 1,000 square-foot space will be constructed almost entirely out of ice shipped from the River Torne in northern Sweden. Nearly everything down to the barstools and single-use glasses will be painstakingly carved from the imported ice, said to be the world's purest. Patrons should expect to shiver (the temperature will hover somewhere around -5° C) and encounter rather over-the-top art (the Milan location features a large-scale ice-carved reproduction of da Vinci's The Last Supper). The Icebar will host 60 guests at a time in 40-minute intervals and exclusively serve vodkas by Absolut, underwriter of this outrageous venture.

London's always calling, but right now, with the 3rd annual London Design Festival running through September 30th, the siren song is a little louder. Exhibitions, cafes, and events take over the city and, curiously, most of what caught our eye happens on the East end, like Geoff McFetridge's premiere show in the UK at Kemistry Gallery (runs through October 5th), a Rococo installation of...

A toy-like unit houses the computer used to store the...

The book organizes the destinations—boutiques, restaurants, hotels, galleries and more—by neighborhood, including a map of the locale and a local's narrative through it—naturally, all with a clean, well-designed layout. Abetted by editorial features...
Quintessentially English with a twist is the best way to describe these gorgeous designs from Barneby Gates. These new kids on the printing block produce beautiful wallpapers that embrace the past with a distinctive contemporary wit. Patterns show typical English influences of country houses, floral decor and heraldry, but on closer inspection have design details that merit a double take. One, called Deer Damask,...
We were just in London on the bus thinking the classic vehicle needed an update. Good thing premier luxury car producer Aston Martin and prominent architectural firm Foster + Partners recently teamed up to give a new spin on the classic London behemoth. The collaboration was prompted by London mayor Boris Johnson, who launched a "Design a Bus" competition last year. The AM/F+P model...
