Meet the Cinema at CONDESAdf by Ami Kealoha
CONDESAdf, the design hotel that opened January in Mexico City's trendy la Condesa neighborhood, introduces a free Summer movie series in their sub-level theater. "Hotel Stories" inaugurates the program with features like "Lost in Translation," and in July the "Sea and Water" theme will include screenings of "The Life Aquatic" and "Breaking the Waves." Early evening showtimes -- at 6pm on Saturdays and Sundays -- mean you can beat the heat in their air-conditioned cinema and still have time for a bite in their rooftop sushi restaurant before hitting the town.
Also, look out for their CD, "Meet la Music" due out from Warner soon.
Reservations are available via Design Hotels.

WOW Magazine
On a 2003 visit, a Mexican designer friend tipped me to WOW magazine. I scoured Mexico City stores to find it and bought out inventories when I did. As far as I know it's the only Mexican publication to cover topics like design, art, film, music, politics, culture, and ecology in a glossy magazine format with bold, chaotic graphic layouts. According to Ana Mallett,...

Hotel Chic and Basic Born, Barcelona
For a holiday spent taking in Barcelona's seamless blend of old and new architecture, food and sounds, the sublime Chic and Basic Hotel couldn't be more well-suited. Located in the trendy Born area, it's an ideal jumping-off spot for wandering the many narrow, meandering streets of the city's neighboring areas. But it's the hotel itself that symbolizes so much of what we consider Barcelona...
