Nike iD Blogger Contest
by Josh Rubin
It's hard not to see an advert for Nike's relaunched iD customization service. They're really blowing out the promotion, and with good reason-- the new version of the site is fast, simple, elegant and fun (rock on RGA!). Then, of course, is the fact that you can customize your shoes to fit your specific taste.
Among the more intriguing promotions they're running are the by-appointment-only store in NYC and this blogger contest. Basically, they asked 20 sneaker bloggers to choose a model and designate the colorway. Voting has begun and the winner will get 100 pairs of their design, ideally to share with their readers.
Why am I not included, you may ask? I wonder the same thing. I was invited to, then the invitation was mysteriously rescinded.
Martin's Pretzels
by Evan Orensten
It's no secret that sometimes the simplest of foods offer the most pleasure, and anything made by hand with love and a little obsession adds another dimension. Martin's Pretzels are handmade in Pennsylvania and are simply the best you're likely to find. Anywhere. I've been obsessed with them for years. Their site provides great history of the pretzel, photos and video of the kitchen, information about their schedule at several New York City farmer markets, and online ordering. Best of all, you can get 3 lbs of pretzel love for $14, making these tasty treats one of the most reasonably priced artisinal snacks around.
Five Three Custom Vans
by Josh Rubin
Seth Brau's Five Three Footwear specializes in customizing Vans with funkadelic, one-of-a-kind patterns. He starts with a plain white pair of Authentics, Slipons or Chukka Boots; creates the design using fabric markers and sprays them with waterproofing to seal in the color.
A native of La Jolla, CA and student at NYU, Brau does the customization thing for the passion of it. Of course, he's ready to make a buck-- Authentics and Slipons are $100 and Chukka Boots are $180. Contact him directly to specify size, model and color preferences.
More pictures after the jump.
