Roly-Poly Backpack
by Josh Rubin

As a judge for the Scientistic Invitational earlier this Spring I had the chance to look at some really great projects. This one, by Eddie Lee from the Art Center College of Design, was one of my favorites.
The Personal Anti-theft Portable Locker draws inspiration from roly-polys, armadillos and lobsters. It has a soft inner backpack and a hard articulated shell that can be separated from the lining. While the design of this thing is pretty great looking, it's a brilliant solution to the urban dilemma of "I need to ditch my bag for a few hours." All you do is wrap the shell around a secure structure like a sign post or lamp pole and lock it in place.
Liselotte Watkins is a talented fashion illustrator from Sweden who's set her sights a bit lower. On the floor, to be precise. She's created a small collection of vibrant, colorful designs that are really beautiful and totally fresh. The 100% wool rugs are available in a range of custom colors and sizes, and are hand tufted in New Jersey (who knew?). Available from Space Downtown.
