Vase Deferens
by Josh Spear
This is D3 Designs Vase Deferens, indeed a very different vase, designed by Clive Solari and David Francis. It gives any flower the freedom to sway in the wind, sitting in only 35ml of water. The design was awarded a DesignMark at the 2005 Australian Design Awards. It's more natural, allowing a flower to stand on it's own--instead of in an "overcrowded bunch." This creates a happier environment for the flower. The design is simple and fun.
A Rural Life
by Josh Rubin
A Rural Life, the 8th LP from Marie and Andy Compton (a.k.a. The Rurals), celebrates their 10th year of making luscious, jazzy, thumping music. I usually leave the music reporting to Ari because he's much more articulate about these things, but I've been listening to the new album all week and am quite pleased. It's perfect music for cocktail hour-- upbeat, soulful and sexy but totally unobtrusive.
Puma Mongolian BBQ Has Arrived
by Josh Rubin
Remember Puma's Mongolian Shoe BBQ? Well, the pair that I designed arrived. Honestly, I have mixed feelings about them. I love the concept of hand selecting colors and materials, and it was lots of fun making the shoe, but the finished product is not as great looking as I had imagined. I am proud to have my own one-of-a-kind pair, but I think I'll stick to designing software.
The Power of Poo
by Josh Rubin
I should have known that anything remotely scatological could become a big hit. Such was the case with my Toilet Bowl Restaurant post on Monday. The pageview graph above illustrates a normal day of traffic on Monday, a nice increase on Tuesday thanks to a link in from Boing Boing and then an even bigger increase yesterday thanks to traffic from Fark.
Over in the Fark Forums there are some hysterical comments like, "The chef is a whiz," "For dessert, pie a la commode" and "Sounds great until the hostess offers to push your stool in."
