Joris Laarman

by Evan Orensten

17.1low.jpg

Though his work made the rounds on design blogs last year, we somehow missed it until now. Joris Laarman is a young Dutch designer with a great sense of style. We like it when designers challenge convention, as Joris has done with his designs for radiators that become part of the room's decor, or with his polyster concrete climbing wall "ivy" that can be assembled in countless ways, allowing you to literally climb the walls.

NIN + Garageband

by Josh Spear

Ningarage

Whether you're a Trent Reznor fan or not, this is a pretty damn inventive way to release a single. We now know Trent Reznor is a Macintosh user, because he has released a single as a GarageBand file, for personal remixing. This is a promotion for the Nine Inch Nails upcoming release "With Teeth", which will be available May 3rd. "'What I'm giving you in this file is the actual multi-track audio session for 'the hand that feeds' in GarageBand format. This is the entire thing bounced over from the actual Pro Tools session we recorded it into. I imported and converted the tracks into AppleLoop format so the size would be reasonable and the tempo flexible.'" The file is available for download (70MB), from their site.

One to Watch: Cary Brothers

by Ari Bendersky

carybrothers.jpgZach Braff was Cary Brothersí ìBlue Eyes,î a lightweight love song that floats through the air when it plays. Iíve been meaning to write about Cary for some time and now that heís going on tour with the much-buzzed about British upstart Aqualung, I thought Iíd take this chance to post about this fantastic, up-and-coming singer/songwriter. His four-song EP, ìAll the Rage,î is currently available and Cary is currently mastering his full-length, which is scheduled for a release sometime in September. Check out his website for new songs; he posts ìfree songsî each week and theyíre either new tracks, live tunes or songs played by his friends. Pay attention to this guy; his star will only continue to burn brighter.

All You Need is Sticker Graphics

by Josh Spear

YouWorkForThem has a great selection of design, art, and very hip books and magazines. This is a book entitled "All You Need is Sticker Graphics", which takes a look at the culture of stickers as an art medium. Stickering, has always been a fast and covert way for graffiti writers to get their names up. There are stickers from famous names like Michael Lau, FAFI, and Alife-- just to name a few. It comes with 50 real stickers, a poster, and has 228 pages of authentic and unusual sticker graphics inside.
