Cool Hunting
Jay Hannan, another stellar DJ. This 2-CD set was a direct result of the Lazy Dog club night they put on every Sunday in Notting Hill in London and it was some of the best deep house produced in the late 90s. They followed this up with a second volume and then sadly, after five years, announced the dissolution of Lazy Dog to pursue other interests
Fortunately Watt didnt step away from the decks and instead created Buzzin Fly Records. He put out one collection last year and his second a non-stop house mix combining flavors of R&B, soul, jazzy grooves, Middle East vocals and strings and spoken-word is due March 21 in the UK and the next day in the States. This is a smile-filled, groove-laden set that all House heads need to own. In fact, before you buy this, check out Lazy Dog Vol. 1 it is still one of my most cherished CDs.
Ben will be at the Winter Music Conference in Miami later this month and will hit a handful of cities across the U.S., including NY, SF, LA and of course, Coachella.
Heres a track from Buzzin Fly Vol. 1, which features the former Terence Trent D'Arby. To hear more, check out buzzinfly.com.

Heather, Lady D and Dayhota, turned the dance music world on edge with collective house spinning techniques. Each DJ has gone on to achieve individual acclaim and in June Colette will put out her first artist album, Hypnotized. Always a singer, Colette became known for singing over tracks she spun at live gigs. Seemingly inspired by Kylie Minogue, Colettes angelic vocals grace 13 tracks,...
The Chemical Brothers have always been hip that goes without saying. But sometimes their music was a little irritating and somewhat too bombastic. Again, not saying they werent grounbreaking, but you know... But now with the release of Push the Button, the Chems again push ahead of the pack so much in fact, they got Q-Tip to sing on their funky, Middle...
Broken up like a tennis tournament, the Hess is More Open began in New York 1 June 2007 with a live performance by Cool Hunting favorite, Hess is More. A trio, Mikkel Hess, Nikolaj Hess and Jens Bjornkjaer, will be performing new and original live sets throughout the month at various venues mixing electronic and acoustic elements into an entirely new experience. This weekend...
Dave 1 (aka Dave Macklovitch) has been busy as hell of late. In addition to being a prolific hip-hop producer, the Montreal native has been pulling duty as Vice magazine's rap editor and is about to release a second album for Chromeo, the cheeky synth-funk outfit he created with his high school friend, Pee Thug (Patrick Gemayel). He's also working on his thesis in...
"Savoir Faire is everywhere!" Ever since I first met this very unassuming maestro back in 1999 at DC's infamous Eighteenth Street Lounge, I've always been impressed with the high contrast between Alex Gimeno's mild-mannered in person demeanor and his jet set persona "Ursula 1000," a name that is defined by swift navigation of stylistic currents, savvy sense of humor (in song titles, art work...
Minimal, sparse, and beautiful, Solo Piano is unlike anything else I’m listening to right now. Canadian-born musician, producer, and rapper Gonzales has worked with everyone from Jane Birkin, to Daft Punk, to ex-label mate Peaches. Critics compared him to Eminem, Prince, and Beck when his debut record, Gonzales Uber Alles, came out with a bang in 2000. That being said, this one might throw...
