Boule
by Evan Orensten

Chant along with me: Chocolaterie, Pâtisserie, Viennoiserie, Confiserie, Glacerie... I'm still tweaking from my visit to Boule-- LA's three month-old shop of wonders by pastry chef Michelle Myers (who is also the co-owner of Sona restaurant). Everything I sampled was great, and several were really exceptional. Her macarons are second only to Ladurée in Paris. Her lemon chiffon marshmallow was tangy and light. And her halvah biscotti perfect with espresso after dinner. No time for tea? Try the tea-infused chocolates. Make sure you save room for the Le Tigre...Mail order available.
Francine Spiegel: Congratulations!
by Josh Rubin
Francine Spiegel is an LA-based artist who's works include photocollage, video, mixed media assemblages and freeform installations. All of her work is derived from samplings of funky feminine cyber-subcultures, techno debris from her studio floor and other random raw materials.
Spiegel’s loose, sprawling technique captures the Dionysian abandon of the fantasies on display, which are woven into shiny, brash webs with fetishistic textures. The pieces are rumpled and limp like debauched frocks or skins shed from identity crises, but the nonjudgmental viewpoint and equality given to all, from neo-hippie chick to chocolate bather, shape a twenty-first century vision of gathering and community.
Spiegel's first New York solo show will be at Silo from 12 March to 17 April.

Puma Beisser
by Josh Rubin
Footwear with fangs-- it was bound to happen. The Beisser, which translates to 'Bites,' is the latest little experiment from Puma. The upper is pretty clean, simple and snug. It's mostly mesh and has a bit of a climbing shoe feel. Those molded rubber soles, however, are for only the fiercest of fashionista.
500 pairs will be made and distributed to select retailers.
