New Fashion Mag Rag by Ranjani Gopalarathinam
From the creators of the pristine Big magazine comes a new b&w oversized newsprint FREE fashion magazine hitting NYC on April 1, 2005. From what I can tell some ex Vice magazine staffers are responsible for this new-feeling paper and looks like it could be interesting. I hope.

The Future Network: The Magazine
There's something refreshingly compelling about The Future Laboratory's latest publication, simply titled The. A "younger sibling" to their house publication Viewpoints, the quarterly is a straightforward look (read: no cheesy color-themed layouts) at current products, people, ideas and events, serving as a cultural thermometer aimed at an audience of marketers, creative directors, designers and the like. While the unfussy approach of The is part...

Fabrican
“It is what it says, simply, fabric in a can,” states Fabrican's no-nonsense website. The London-based company has developed spray-on cotton fabric. While initially it's quite thin, you can spray on more coats making it thicker. The potential is wide for many uses from industrial purposes, medical sectors, and of course fashion applications. The technology was developed in 2003 by Dr. Manel Torres and...

Betsy Ross Patterns
Betsy Ross, Aimee Dolby's line of chic user-friendly clothing patterns, is one of the most recent additions to the growing DIY institution. Thanks to O.G.s like ReadyMade magazine (I'm a regular contributor), new kid Make, and the Renegade Craft Fair, modern crafty products like Dolby's have an established market. Her stylish kits, which include two skirts, a blouse, a dress, pants, and a tote,...

Nylon Guys
The super glossy product magazine coveted by the ladies is no longer just for the them--Nylon recently introduced a magazine targeted at "hip guys", called Nylon Guys. I was a bit skeptical at first, but I think they have done pretty well with it so far. I got to sit with the first issue for a bit, and it was honestly packed to the...

Interview with Erik Madigan Heck of Nomenus Quarterly
by Laura Neilson In 2007, 23-year-old Erik Madigan Heck founded Nomenus Quarterly with the kind of arrogant fervor that only someone at that age could pull off. And perhaps it was that very same aplomb that made the multifaceted art and fashion publication so notoriously successful. Just one glance at the archives' roster of featured artists, designers and contributors, including Dries Van Noten, Helmut...

The New York Times Magazine Redesign
A little over a week ago on 14 June 2009 one of my favorite magazines, The New York Times Magazine, quietly unveiled a new design and format in an effort to cut costs and waste (there were two artist designed covers for the 14 June issue, shown above). Announced in that issue's editor's letter by Gerald Marzorati, I'm surprised how under the radar it...
