Cool Hunting
Looking for new music based on your current tastes? MusicPlasma lets you search on any band or artist and it returns a family tree-like display with other bands or musicians closely related to the original search term.
For instance, put in Coldplay and artists like Radiohead, Travis, White Stripes and the Strokes pop up. Enter Madonna and the obvious come up: J.Lo, Britney, Justin, Christina, Kylie and any number of first-name pop stars (not really sure how George Straits related though).
Its like six degrees of separation for music, but things here are more closely related. At first, the search may seem a little daunting, but after the first or second try, you may find yourself addicted. For fun, click on an artists sphere and change the display again.
The navigation is kind of tricky-- if you click on something in the right or left portion of the screen, the entire sphere of artists moves and its not that easy to center it again. Plus, if you put a newer artist into the search, you tend to stump the intelligence.
It's not entirely intuitive, but the colorful bubbles are fun to look at.

It sits in the background of your music player, so there's not extra work for you. Thanks Scott!...

Jonathan Harris continues to explore the art of storytelling in his inimitable way with his latest project, The Whale Hunt. A photo-documentary work, Harris joined a family of Inupiat Eskimos in Barrow, Alaska (the northernmost settlement in the United States) to take part in a whale hunt, a thousand-year-old tradition that provides the community's annual food supply. In an attempt to mimic the same...
Imagine an online social network that provides free, on-demand online music but without the legal anxiety of peer-to-peer networks. More interactive than conventional internet radio, though not as gratifying as Napster was in its glory days, Jango is a New York City-based music site with a large database of songs and artists and is instantly addictive. Now in its beta launch, there's a waiting...
La Blogothèque's Concerts à emporter (Take-Away Shows) are a collection of live, unedited videos of musicians playing in unusual settings. The artists' unpredictable interaction with the environment and the reactions of often clueless bystanders result in a genius blend of music video and reality TV. With a sharp eye for incorporating improvised performances into unexpected spaces, director Vincent Moon creates and captures moments that...
