Denver: Art Museum Addition by Josh Spear

denmus1.jpg

The Denver Art Museum is getting quite the grand and futuristic expansion--They're calling it the Frederic C. Hamilton building. It's going to be an impressive geometric shaped explosion made of glass and over 230,000 square feet of titanium all designed by Daniel Libeskind. Libeskind designed the Jewish Museum in Berlin in '99, and in '03 he was selected to design the World Trade Center site in New York City. When the Denver Art Museum expansion is finished in Fall '06 it will be the first Libeskind designed building completed in the U.S.A-- He also worked on The Royal Ontario Museum expansion which hasn't been completed yet.

MoCP 2008 Fine Print Editons
by Laurice Parkin Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Photography recently announced the editions for their 2008 Fine Print Program. The program offers the opportunity to collect contemporary photographs by internationally recognized artists while supporting the Museum. Definitely a win-win for all involved. This year's diverse selections feature the work of KayLynn Deveney, Greta Pratt, Simon Roberts, New Catalogue and Jan Theun van Rees. From Deveney’s...
Whitney Biennial 2008
This time around we chose to cover the Whitney Biennial with help from the museum's exhibition designer, Mark Steigelman. Last week's video on Olaf Breuning included a glimpse of his Biennial installation at the Park Avenue Armory (an off-site component that's new this year) and this episode is a select survey of the works by the 50-odd artists showing at the Whitney. Mark explains the...
Mock-Ups in Close-Up
Working in design retail, one of my favorite job perks was visiting architecture firms and sometimes catching a glimpse of building models. Beyond architect biopics, I have little recollection of seeing building models used in film, though apparently there's a wealth of footage available. Architect Gabu Heindl and film theorist Drehli Robnik recently compiled such footage (a curated selection of 80 clips) into an...
