Chris Beckman Paints for Polo by Josh Rubin
Chris Beckman has moved from the canvas to denim in a new series of work for Polo Jeans Co. A limited edition of 600 hand painted jeans, inspired by Chris's work, will be sold to help promote the denim company's GIVE (Get Involved. Volunteer. Exceed.) program to encourage community service.
I was skeptical of how good these would look, but given the opportunity to inspect them more closely I was pleasantly surprised. Though intentionally applied, the painting appears random and natural-- like I had locked myself in the studio for a week, obsessively painting without changing my clothes. The cut, Townshend, is quite good as well-- they're good butt jeans!

Denim Hokusai
Hokusai's famous wave, already re-imagined by Kozyndan as a tide of bunnies, got a new medium when Levi's exec and surfer Caroline Calvin handcrafted a 22 foot by 12 foot jeans mosaic that depicts a detail of the "The Great Wave." Called "Love and Peace," after debuting at a special event during Los Angeles's fashion week this Wednesday October 19th and showing a second...

CH caught up with the duo during their recent exhibition at Robio to talk about art, beer and fashion. (Click images for detail.) What's with the name? Hank: Blame our parents. That's what we normally do. Matlok: Yeah,...

A.P.C. Surplus, Brooklyn
We were among the excited first today to check out A.P.C.'s latest store (and the second of their outlets worldwide) today in Brooklyn. Called A.P.C. Surplus for its flat 60% discounted prices, the Williamsburg storefront is housed in a beautiful former bank with plenty of rustic charm (i.e. it looks as if it recently caught fire). At only 600 square feet, the space feels...

Needs For Sale
This summer, New York City couple Christine Santora and Justin Gignac launched Wants For Sale, a site where they sell paintings of things that they want, at the cost of the real item. So a painting of a slice of pizza is only $3 while a Nintendo Wii goes for $270.92. (Your DSL must have been down if you missed it.) After starting the...
