Brazilian Girls Do it Better by Ari Bendersky

BrazilianGirls.jpgBrazilian Girls are turning the dance music world on its head.

Fronted by the sultry Sabina Scuibba, Brazilian Girls sounds like Shirley Bassey, Grace Jones and Los Amigos Invisibles at an outdoor reggae fest. While their name suggests Rio, the group actually hails from Brooklyn. Scuibba, born in Italy and raised in Nice and Munich, moved to New York, met the three guys in Brazilian Girls and the foursome took the downtown scene at Nublu by storm.

Their self-titled debut on Verve Records hit streets on Feb. 1 and they’re on tour now.

Check out samples of all their tracks.

Glass Ghost: Like A Diamond Video
The first video from Brooklyn's piano-drum duo Glass Ghost looks like it could have a copyright two decades old. Produced by Peking (the outfit behind numerous CH videos), the "Like a Diamond" video cobbles together a seemingly random collection of home videos, some with singer Eliot Krimsky superimposed over it, others left in all their retro glory. The edit intersperses shots of Krimsky posturing...
Polite Sleeper: Lake Effect
The first proper full-length from Brooklyn's Polite Sleeper, Lake Effect serves up nine songs straddling the hazy line between folk and indie rock. At turns somber and frenetic, singer/guitarist Jason Orlovich's earnest vocal timber and everyday observations echo more recent Mountain Goats records. Rounded out by Michael Curtes (keys and vocals) and Tim Wilson (drums and vocals), the group shows remarkable range and versatility...
Cool Hunting's Fall 2009 Playlist
As summer hanging makes way for classes and meetings, the changing season calls for a soundtrack of syncopated digital beats and rock 'n' roll jams for setting a productive mood. Of course, fall wouldn't be fall without shedding a small tear for the parties that had to end, romances that seem frivolous in fall and trees losing their leaves, which all feels most satisfyingly...
