Airborn Audio by Josh Spear

airstudio1.jpg
Two members of Antipop Consortium are back. Well, that’s not exactly true because they never left—, they just took a small vacation from music stardom. Ex-members High Priest and M.Sayyid have teamed up, leaving old Antipop member Beans behind to bring what they had done once before to a much, much higher level. They call their new group Airborn Audio. Blasting through all stereoptypes of what hip hop is and should be they created a mixtape called Close Encounters, chock full of edgy and eccentric rhymes on playgrounds of ghostly and bizarrely good beats. Rumor has it an upcoming album is on its way from Ninjatune.

Check out their promo mixtape on iTunes.

MC Lars: Joker or Superstar?
MC Lars, who went to Stanford University (but seems somehow connected to Scandinavia – he even has a song called “Straight Outta Stockholm”), is a little bit hip hop and a little bit pop rock (think Donny and Marie if they had emerged in 2005. No? Ok, I wasn’t buying it either). He’s as white as they come, but manages to rhyme pretty well,...
Papercuts: You Can Have What You Want
The third album for Papercuts, You Can Have What You Want, highlights a strongly maturing Jason Robert Quever, who's still a nostalgic songwriter but is bringing a new level of mastery to his trademark sound in good form. Looking back to the first impression of the SF band in 2004, the lo-fi aesthetic of Mockingbird was a hazy and modern take on the old....
Denon DP-200USB Turntable with Automatic MP3 Encoder
For those who want to convert their vinyl to digital but face the daunting prospect of spending hours organizing it, this system from Denon bests the competition by automatically assigning artist name, titles, etc. to imported tracks. Using a USB port, the turntable connects to any compatible drive and included software both analyzes the tracks and detects silences to automatically split them (or there's...
Rootbeer
Recently formed hip-hop duo, Rootbeer (Pigeon John and Flynn Adam), have just dropped a super fresh piece of audio pie right in your kitchen. Influenced by artists such as MGMT, N.E.R.D and A Tribe Called Quest, Rootbeer offer up an edgy and unfeigned lyrical style. Turn up their debut release, The Pink Limousine EP, to eleven. You'll find it impossible not to make shapes....
