Voodoo Knife Holder
by Josh Rubin
This one hit my sick sense of humor right in the sweet spot. Cast in ABS, its morbid brilliance is the creation of Raffaele Iannello at the Italian firm Viceversa. I can't yet find any information on where to get one, so if you know please share.
Thanks, Rachel!
Serum VS Venom
by Josh Rubin
Serum vs Venom is the newly launched modern luxury brand from the KDU (the same hot collective where you'll find JB Classics). SVSV combines a focus on luscious materials with edgy street styling. Featuring items like an $8000, custom tailored, pure Vicuna wool hoodie (middle), SVSV might bring to street wear what Jacob the Jeweler brought to jewelry. Most items will range from $800 to $3000 and there's no word yet where you'll be able to find it.
K Adorable's Latest
by Josh Rubin
k adorable was born in the spring of 2001 when two design worlds collided with a mutual interest in sneakers, jeans and the search for the perfect t-shirt. Those two worlds are Paul Marlow's fashion and Matthew Sandager's graphics, and the result is a subscription t-shirt service that delivers hand made, limited run, original designs. The latest issue is this rockin' golfer (click to zoom), and it's the first good use of a golf ball I've ever seen. The best k adorable is the excitement of not knowing what the next issue is going to look like-- it brings back an increasingly scarce element of surprise.
A 5 t-shirt subscription is $145 (plus shipping). You can also buy t-shirts individually, but that's not nearly as fun!
Havanna Alfajores Cookies
by Evan Orensten
.
I found these Argentinian treats in a coffee shop in Miami and haven't stopped talking about them (and eating them) all week. Made by the well known Havanna brand, the best of the five flavors are the Dulce de Leche, which are coated in meringue. The textures and flavors create an uncommonly complex experience. These cookies are big and rich, and I find that one is more than enough to get the job done. The look and heft of the package is impressive and makes a great gift. If you can't find them in your neighborhood, they are available online from a great Latin food resource you should know about anyway: Amigo Foods. A box of 12 (6 chocolate, 6 dulce de leche) will cost you around $24.
Elliot Golden
by Josh Spear
Elliot Golden is an East Village, NYC based illustrator with great work and international recognition. He sees illustration as a balance between concept and aesthetic. His illustrations begin as acrylic painting and then he finishes them digitally to give a unique look.
The American Package Museum
by Josh Spear
The American Package Museum has and extensive collection of package design from the early decades of the 20th century. Chewing gum, shaving cream, cereal boxes, and more-- there is a lot to check out there. Although the collection is just an online exhibit, there are 3D views of many of the objects so you can get a closer look. It's really fascinating and amusing to see the branding and design of the past. It just shows us how far design has come-- and in my opinion how simple and sharp package design used to be.
