Imperfectionist: Wallpaper

by Carol T Chung

Imperfectionist-AirForce.jpg
Late last summer, Rubin covered the t-shirt company Wallpaper Squared. They've described it as consumerism gone mad. Using everyday objects like lamps, sunglasses, and sneakers, they've created interesting patterns that embrace the vibe of consumer fetishism at its fullest. Hurrah for stuff!

Remote Control Finder

by Josh Rubin

Rimokon Hakken
Attach this little yellow doo-dad to your remote control and whenever you whistle it will light up and make noises so you can find it. And it's not just for remotes, you can attach it to anything-- annoy your cat, find your keys, play high tech Marco Polo, whatever.

New Fashion Mag Rag

by Ranjani Gopalarathinam

From the creators of the pristine Big magazine comes a new b&w oversized newsprint FREE fashion magazine hitting NYC on April 1, 2005. From what I can tell some ex Vice magazine staffers are responsible for this new-feeling paper and looks like it could be interesting. I hope.

Mobile Payments

by Josh Rubin

Vert.Japan.Smart.Phone.Ap

As the quest to consolidate wallet contents in to the mobile phone continues, we still look to Japan as the technological innovator. Next month trials will begin to test the use of mobile phones for subway fare payment. No worries about dialing up the right screen or sending off a text message, the entire transaction will be handled by a small chip manufactured by Sony. Just wave the phone at the turnstile and go. Widespread launch is expected by the beginning of next year.

Chichu Art Museum

by Josh Spear

Japmus

I haven't had the pleasure of traveling to Japan yet, but very soon I'll be going on a cool hunting adventure there-- and I don't know if I'll ever return! One place I must stop as I'm on tour around Japan is The Chichu Art Museum. It's only accessible by boat, and Tadao Ando designed it to be completely built into the ground and barely rise above ground level--so it doesn't disrupt the islands lush and natural appearance. Each section of the museum is connected by concrete corridors allowing natural light to flow in and cover some of the works inside. They apparently have an entire room dedicated to Monet's Water Lilies, but I'd go just to see the architecture and design executed on this beautiful island landscape.

Shuffle Art

by Josh Spear

It was only a matter of time until this happened, and my guess is the iPod shuffle customization era is just getting into gear. ShuffleArt has Vinyl Sticker art you can easily apply on your iPod Shuffles, for sale, or the DIY method, download a template from this site and design your own.
