House Music All Night Long by Ari Bendersky

heartbeatcover_ari.jpgLoveslap Recordings just put out “Heartbeat” volume I featuring the inimitable DJ skills of David Harness and and will release volume 2 with the equally tantalizing Julius Papp on March 8.

Harness, resident DJ at the incomparable San Francisco club the End Up owns the first set, mixing in mellow house grooves that create an ambient, albeit sexy, atmosphere. On the second, Papp, who was nominated last year in the first-ever House Music Awards in the Most Innovative Producer category, stirs things up, making you want to dance wherever you are (in my case, I was in the kitchen grilling chicken).

The Heartbeat series seems to be quickly gaining momentum and may become to House music what the Global Underground series does for Trance. So far, Heartbeat appears to be 100 percent studio session mixes while GU showcases live sets.

And if you ever find yourself in the beautiful City by the Bay on a Thursday night, swing by Pink to catch David and Julius spinning together in that cozy, intimate space in the heart of the Mission District.

A New World Vision: Aram Danesh and the Super Human Crew
Aram Danesh and the Super Human Crew, sounds like a ridiculous amalgam of a Middle Eastern hip-hop collective, right? Wrong. More like a throwback to old school rap, the Crew represents all that is great about the Bay Area's music scene. Danesh, who lives in beautiful Tiburon, across the Bay from San Francisco, brings together disparate sounds, including pepper-infused salsa set to funky urban...
DJ Colette
Heather, Lady D and Dayhota, turned the dance music world on edge with collective house spinning techniques. Each DJ has gone on to achieve individual acclaim and in June Colette will put out her first artist album, “Hypnotized.” Always a singer, Colette became known for singing over tracks she spun at live gigs. Seemingly inspired by Kylie Minogue, Colette’s angelic vocals grace 13 tracks,...
Verve Remixed 3 -- They Do it Again
Verve: Remixed projects have done it again. The third volume in the series takes things up a notch by not only employing the skills of top DJs, but also some indie rock and hip-hop artists as well. This time around, the obvious divas are remixed, including Billie Holiday, Nina Simone and Sarah Vaughan, but South African-born jazz and world fusion visionary Hugh Masekela gets...
