Arakimentari

by Carol T Chung

Araki-watermelon.jpgArakimentari. The subject is the reknowned (or reviled) japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki. He's considered to have changed the representation of female nudity in Japan. The film explores the artist behind the photos by documenting his work ethic and revealing the context in which he creates his work. There are also interviews with Bjˆrk and Takeshi Kitano. This is a wonderful presentation of a man, who is not as pervy as he seems--on second thought, maybe he is, but in a fun light hearted way. I know I wouldn't mind having tea with him someday!

If your in NYC, head over to the ImaginAsian Theater. Everyone else, keep your eyes open for it. The DVD should be out in March, by Tartan.

adidas Superstar City Series: NYC Drop

by Josh Rubin

Adidas Cityseries Nyc Drop

adidas dropped all but 2 of the cities in the 35th Anniversary Superstar City Series today in NYC. The Wooster Street Originals shop received 100 pair each of New York, Tokyo, Buenos Aires, Berlin and Paris. Apparently, Boston and London were held up at US Customs.

The DJ was spinning old school Hip Hop and they limited the number of people allowed in the store to maintain a civil vibe. Some collectors were lined up for over 3 hours in the 10ºF / -12ºC weather; I was there too, but a little later. After an hour and a half wait I was still able to get first choice sizes in Tokyo, Buenos Aires and Paris.

It's not clear when London and Boston will drop or whether there will be another launch event, line-up hoopla.
