Call For Entries

OPENSOURCE, an alternative art space accommodating a variety of non-traditional, community-oriented art projects and events within Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, requests submissions for an upcoming exhibition and sale of artists' T-shirt multiples. Artists and designers are invited to produce an original edition of at least 10 T-shirts in response to one of the following three themes:

Designers Do It Better
keywords: haute couture meets T-shirt couture, more is less and function follows form, Bauhaus in da house, aesthetic apparatus, good design is hard to find, my other T-shirt is a BMW, a machine for being (cool)...

Souvenir (See, I was There)
keywords: tourism (cultural and otherwise), place / history as commodity, kitsch and crap, collectibles (spoons and snow globes, right?), colloquialisms (co-localisms), viva Las Vegas!

A Pun Is Fun
keywords: "I'm with stupid," ha-ha funny, word games and head games, welcome to the palindrome...

Deadline for submissions: January 21, 2005

There is no entry fee and artists may submit as many T-shirts as they like. However, OPENSOURCE will retain a 20% commission of all T-shirts sold in order to offset operating costs. Unsold T-shirts will shipped back to the participants and paid for by deducting the shipping costs from their total amount in sales. The appropriately named outfit, Homage, pays tribute to sports teams and so much more with their clever graphics and nostalgic sentiment printed onto brand new, worn-out cotton tees. Homage began with a license to distribute Ohio State University gear, but with big aspirations and the desire to...
Keep x Tobin Yelland: Camera Tee
In collaboration with Keep, photographer Tobin Yelland's fascination with his camera has taken on a new form with a graphic tee emblazoned with one of his drawings. Known for taking pictures of skateboarders, like any good photographer, Yelland loves his camera. But unlike most other photographers, he fanatically draws his Leica. He looks for interesting subjects when he takes photos, but when he draws,...
Best of CH 2008: Top Five Tees
One thing that didn't set 2008 apart was the abundance of tees improving on the classic Hanes. As we tear the final page off the calendar, we reflect on the top five tees featured here on Cool Hunting. We checked back in with Klaus Industries whose irreverent brand of political satire makes us grin on the outside even while we wince on the inside. Toward...

Donnelly started designing T-Shirts after dropping out of art school, seeing it as the easiest way to show and promote his art work.
