NYX Wearable Displays by Josh Rubin
I was at a certain wireless trade show last week in San Francisco where there was plenty of decent stuff, but these dudes in animated jackets from NYX were more impressive than the rest (except the Treo 650, of course). The display is quite flexible and is not raised from the surface of the fabric. To show scrolling text or a graphical animation, just plug in your a Palm Pilot loaded with the NYX software and enter whatever you want. From club kids to traffic cops, wearable displays will soon be fun, informative and sometimes annoying.
Click on this thumbnail to view a demo movie. I apologize for the music, it wasn't my choice.
NYX doesn't have a public web site yet, but they are reachable via email.

Wired NextFest 2007
From ideas that ran from the creepy (like regenerated body parts including bladders) to conceptually fascinating (like a harp with strings made from lasers and a Lifestraw that kills sinister infectious organisms in water upon contact), over 160 exhibitors at the 4th annual Wired NextFest in Los Angeles this past weekend enthusiastically revealed their visions of the future to receptive nerds of all ages....

The Hoody Gallery
Now that the hoody's been elevated to avant-couture, it follows that there's an exhibition devoted to the ubiquitous item of clothing. Featuring works by local Bay Area designers, such as Nicacelly (pictured), Uhu Clothing and Like Minded People, The Hoody Gallery is a group show of limited-edition hoodies that have been silkscreened, re-invented and otherwise tricked-out. The one-night event also features a line-up of...

Cosmic Wonder
The opening of the group show Cosmic Wonder this coming Friday, 14 July 2006, at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco signals the death (or latest high watermark depending on how you look at it) of second-wave psychedelia that's flooded contemporary art in recent years. Including pieces by king and queen of the movement, fellow RISD and Fort Thunder alums...
