Cool Hunting
It would seem to me that Dodi Wexler is a bit obsessive compulsive. The intricacy of her work must demand more attention than a needy puppy. Not necessarily calculated, but certainly elaborate, her process yields incredible collage that is to be appreciated both up close and from a distance. She combines all sorts of materials to create visually rich and almost narrative pieces of rather large scale.
The Mostly Little Land of This and That is the title of her upcoming show in NYC. If you can, you must see this stuff in person.

by Tamara Warren If the best work comes from life experience, then Michel Auder married well. Or at least he married intriguing people—Viva, a Warhol superstar and photographer Cindy Sherman—who added color to his already vibrant life story. The Paris-born artist and filmmaker has done just about everything interesting in the past forty years. To prove it, he kept a diary of his days...
by Ariston Anderson At first glance, the collection of portraits FAS Contemporary's Volta booth appears to be a wall of extremely beautiful women throughout the ages, each one quickly created in delicate strokes of oil paint. But then Monica Lewinsky's face pops out at you and is that Paula Jones? British painter Annie Kevan's solo show features every Presidential girlfriend on record. Although the majority...
Riffing on the juxtaposition of the traditional with the digital, the inspiration for the upcoming panel discussion in NYC, Craft Hackers, is the kind of work that melds needlework and computing. Members of the panel include a cadre of accomplished artists engaging the tech-meets-handmade aesthetic. Cat Mazza has captured moving images into stills knit from yarn; Christy Matson uses an early loom (one of...
