Medium Footwear by Josh Rubin

medium_structuralist

This post is long overdue. I learned about Medium footwear last January, but wanted them to be my own little secret. Not fair, I know.

Medium footwear was founded by 4 very accomplished shoe designers. With backgrounds from companies like Simple, Nike, Polo and Teva and roots in skating, surfing snowboarding and architecture, they are creating in incredible product range. They're targeting Cultural Creatives-- a class of people who are responsible for designing and communicating many of the products and services you use today. Medium believes quality, simplicity and distinctiveness are virtues for this group of people. I agree. My favorite Medium design? The Structuralist, by company Chairman Eric Meyer.

Newton Motion AW
Newton's sneakers are as close to running barefoot as a person can get. Much has been made recently of returning to the elemental movement of walking or running. The logic suggests that our bodily structure is best served when motion is as close as possible to its primal state (i.e. running while barefoot). Newton attempts to fulfill this role for casual and professional runners,...

What sets this shoe apart from the rest is the fact that it's a newly designed low-top for use in a sport traditionally played in high-tops. Although high-tops help prevent ankle sprains, the fact is most ankle support comes from a sturdy base...
Nike 706: 100 Innovations
Eighty-eight days before the opening ceremony of the Olympics XXIV (on 8 August 2008) Nike filled a warehouse space in Beijing's up and coming 798 Arts District with their 100 most innovative accomplishments and I was fortunate enough to be one of the first to see it. A gallery-like exhibit providing insight into the inspiration behind some of the game-changing footwear and apparel, it's...
Nike Zoom Victory Spike and Precool Vest
Continuing to push the limits of sportswear innovation, the Zoom Victory Spike and Precool vest are two Nike products that impressed us when introduced at their media summit earlier this week. The Zoom Victory spike takes its design inspiration from the engineering of a suspension bridge, lending strength with minimal use of materials. (We think it looks a lot like a Calatrava, pictured via Lost...
